SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- A controversial plan to raise the cost of registering your car in California could soon be in the works in Sacramento. Even with the Democrats' new supermajority, there are doubts lawmakers will be able to push through another tax.
In what could be the Democrats' first test in the new supermajority powers in the Legislature, a group called Transportation California has asked St. Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, to introduce legislation to triple the vehicle license fee you pay to register your cars.

hmmm not really.
Where are those Liberals going to move? I hope not Texas it could turn blue
DO IT!!!!!
California Communism File.
Indeed. They are colonizing Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico, and of course Oregon asnd Washington. Here in Texas, it is Travis County where Austin is. They go where they find lower taxes, and then vote to jack them up.
They will more likely pass a hundred little fee and tax hikes, each time they will point to how small it is.
“It’s just a tiny increase, why worry?”
Once they have completely wrecked California, they will move on to other states to spread their social justice.
That’s for sure. Colorado has been turned blue by fleeing Californians, who can’t or don’t connect the dots between how they vote and why they needed to leave.
And don't forget all of those rrrrrrich tech companies in Silicon Valley.
It could, but it doesn’t matter.
Florida and Ohio are already blue, the GOP is aced out right now today.
We lived in CA for only a year, and that was enough! Auto plates registration was based on age of car and it was $700 for my newer car. A classic practice on how to discourage buying new cars. Democrats are absolutely nuts.
Vehicle registration fee in California on a new car worth $25,000 is about $250 a year now (perhaps someone in Calfornia has a better number).
What are registration fees in other states?
Yeah, but isn’t it Liberal Season soon in Texas ??? (evil grin)
I did a dumb thing and got a ticket for talking on my cell phone while driving. The fine was $20, but with all the extra “fees” (local, county, and state), the total came to $162.
A red light ticket here in California can easily run $500 depending on the city.
The legislature is so crazy that even our loony liberal governor warned them to take it easy.
What a burden on working people who have no other way to get to work. Public transportation is not available to get to many jobs.
For Florida: Fees range from $46.15 to $141.30, depending on taxes, county fees, car weight, and whether its paid annually or biennially.
They want to discourage cars, period. They want everyone on trains, buses or bikes -- or best of all, on foot.
I propose never moving to CA (again).
That same $25k new vehicle in Minnesota would be $324 (+ county stuff which varies). The $324 rate would apply to the first 2 years and then it goes down in small steps from there.
