The last real General we saw publicly was Norman Schwarzkopf, and Colin Powell got him stopped before the fight was over.

So you have these biggie Generals who really have no power at all, they can direct battles only after they receive specific instruction from civilians in D.C., hence the idiotic rules of engagement that get our guys killed or taken to court and jailed. And therein lies the reason we haven't won a war since WWII. It must be very frustrating to be a General. Perhaps the frustration leads to their peccadilloes.
