Skip to comments.Guards sought for news crews in Oakland

The violent robbery of a television news crew outside an Oakland school last week was the latest in a series of similar incidents in a city where the rate of strong-arm robberies and holdups is surging.
But the brazenness of the attack - which occurred during a live broadcast in the middle of the day - has brought fresh urgency to the problem. Union officials who represent reporters at most of the Bay Area's major television and radio stations said Tuesday they had asked the broadcasters to immediately hire security guards to accompany news crews when they are in Oakland. At least one station has already enlisted guards, and others are considering it.
Meanwhile, station managers met Tuesday with Oakland police officials, including Chief Howard Jordan, to discuss the string of robberies, some of which have been committed at gunpoint. One veteran Oakland Tribune photographer, Laura Oda, has been robbed of cameras twice since July.

Of course, an armed news crew could put a complete stop to this nonsense and have some fantastic video footage to boot. But it is Kalifornicateya.
It’s not only a movie, it’s a California documentary.
What’s that word that describes this, oh, yeah, schadenfreude.
Obama Propagandists robbed by Obama voters...it’s a wash.
very ironic. wonder if the robbers said “thank you for your support”.....that’s the least they could do..../s
Hey look on the bright side. Guards for television crews. Crime is a job creator.
Wow...Media VS. Unions VS. Thugs.
Who woulda thunk it!
Unions upset that there are individuals out there who won’t work and violently take from others? Oh, that’s rich.
It’s a job for black people.
A white man guarding a news crew would be jumped on with both feet by the mob and if he should hurt someone he would get life imprisonment for a hate crime.
Wait ‘til the transgenders get involved
forgot to say: using a Google search with freerepublic in the search terms can work pretty well for finding individual comments too.
If, as I suspect the majority of new crews are rat voters I’d say they have a home cooked meal and eat their roosting chickens.
When I select search nothing happens. There is nowhere to enter anything.
“Its a job for black people. A white man guarding a news crew would be jumped on with both feet by the mob and if he should hurt someone he would get life imprisonment for a hate crime.”
Sounds like a great opportunity for the new Black Panther party to become guards and to only have new Black Panther reporters and camera its.
But there is no place to enter a search term. Just a white screen. Nothing else, nada.
“This may have been posted already. Free Republic search function doesn’t work for me anymore.”
FR search reminds me of the liberals we have in N California.
It and the liberals never work.
I go to google to search FR.
