FBI probe of Petraeus began with 'suspicious emails'

(Reuters) - The FBI investigation that led to the discovery of CIA Director David Petraeus' affair with author Paula Broadwell was sparked by "suspicious emails" from her to another woman and Petraeus was not the target of the probe, U.S. law enforcement and security officials told Reuters on Saturday.

But the CIA director's name unexpectedly turned up in the course of the investigation, two officials and two other sources briefed on the matter said.

The FBI was looking into "an issue with two women and they stumbled across the affair with Petraeus," a U.S. government security source said.

The FBI probe was triggered when Broadwell sent threatening emails to an unidentified woman close to the CIA director, a security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. It was unclear what the relationship of the woman who received the emails was to Petraeus.

The woman went to the FBI complaining of cyber harassment and the law enforcement agency traced the threats to Broadwell, the security official said. The FBI then uncovered explicit emails between Petraeus and Broadwell, The Washington Post reported.

Attempts by Reuters and other news media to reach Broadwell, an Army reserve officer and author of a biography of Petraeus, have not been successful.

The FBI and CIA declined comment on Saturday.

Many questions in the case remain unanswered publicly, including the identity of the second woman; the precise nature of the emails that launched the FBI investigation; and whether U.S. security was compromised in any way.

Nor is it clear why the FBI waited until Election Day to tell Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who oversees the CIA and other intelligence agencies, about its investigation involving Petraeus.

If I tattled to the FBI that someone threatened me via email they’d tell me to go sick a rope, if not somehow punish me for wasting their time. Why did thus woman get special treatment? Why a whole big investigation over a few measly threats?

Oh that probe. The probes over the last 4 years since our neo-communists first came to power to create dossiers on everyone not in the party probably isn't what they're referring to. It's cool to have access to the best information gathering capabilities in the world.

She has a friend who is an FBI agent. She didn't "go through normal channels". She schmoozes with the privileged class.

Someone had to inform Judge Royce C. Lamberth. Who was it? Could it have been Cantor or ws it Holder. No way they snoped into the CIA e-mails without him knowing it. Once we know who, we will know where this is going.

Because the Chicago Thugs got wind of the affair months ago and used
the email to get proof to confront Betrayus, After he had served his purpose
on lying about the video. After the election Obama needed a fall guy for
Benghzi and a distraction(sex scandal) to discredit anything Betrayus
Might say.

The FBI themselves planted the e-mails, in building a false chain of evidence, an action I find much more plausible than the “accidental” discovery of a relationship between General Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, and some apparently harassing remarks relayed through Jill Kelley. There was also mention of another officer, General Allen, whose presence and involvement are a little murky at best.

Now there may have very well be some innocuous exchanges, but with a little doctoring and artfully revealed “facts” in the matter, a totally devastating picture can be painted - any prosecuter in a criminal case is well aware of the techniques. Mistrials have been declared and verdicts have been thrown out on much less. The evidence is so contaminated by now that a clear definition of reality may no longer be possible.

Keep in mind the big picture here. The Current Regime is pulling out all the stops and is perfectly willing to shred the reputations of dozens, if not hundreds, of people, and put whole agencies at risk of exposure and loss of mission effectiveness. There seems to be no maximum on the amount of mischief they are willing to visit upon anything they see as an obstacle.

Bill Clinton was a two-bit chiseler, set only on pranking the American public. And he pulled it off, do you see him sitting in prison anywhere?

"maybe some usual info bull shit."
There. Fixed it for you. This whole sordid affair is going to make Water Gate look like a walk in the park. No pun intended.

As TigersEyes elucidated in more then one thread:
Fact One:

1) Only the POTUS can authorize a CBA (cross border authority) command for a rescue mission in a foreign nation.
Plus Fact Two:

2) No rescue mission was attempted.

Equals Fact Three:

3) 0bama turned his back on 41 State Dept. and CIA employees refusing to issue a CBA command and went to bed so he could go to Las Vegas the next day.

All the rest of this crap is simply diversion.

It’s not your daddy’s FBI. The modern FBI is hostile to Americans, hostile to the American way of life and hostile to freedom. All these FBI pigs care about is collecting a paycheck and racking up retirement points so they can collect $10,000 a month in bennies.

The modern FBI will murder women and children and babies (See Waco) and not lose a second of sleep.

It’s way past time for Americans to see the FBI as enemies of the free American state.

That's the worst of 3 major scandals IMO.

All three are huge.

Agree in full. It's up to the Senate and HR to get to the bottom of the loss of four American lives. Then have the guts to present the wrong doings to the public, regardless of partisan affiliation.
I fully understand that with dingy gangster Reid running the Senate, there is a snow balls chance in Hell that the Senate would go along with a request from the House to impeach.
So where will it all lead in the name of justice. Who knows.
