from Frank Cannon: "...it is critical that the GOP get the social issues right. The truce strategy is the most politically ineffectual position possible. Republicans this election cycle adopted pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-religious-liberty positions while showing voters they would not publicly promote or defend them. "

Exactly!

My worst disappointment with Romney came when he immediately condemned Todd Akin. This was just after Akin's comment that was caricatured as the so-called "legitimate rape" statement.

Yes, Akin's phrasing was clumsy. And yes, he should have realized he was being hooked into a "gotcha" situation. But beyond that, Akin's statement was not malicious, nor woman-hating, nor "offensive" (to any fair minded person). In fact, what Akin said was 100% correct (and I can say that 'cause I'm a woman /s) .

What would Ronald Reagan have done in that situation? I believe that Reagan would've done the opposite of Romney -- i.e. he would have seized the opportunity to explain to the public what being pro-life really means.

And thereby he would've won the hearts and minds, the respect, and the VOTES of many women -- even if they didn't agree entirely with his pro-life position.

Clicking on your name wasn’t a big chore, I was curious what a lefty/libertarian would be doing on a conservative site.

If we tee up a real Conservative (Ryan?) we will win.

Sorry, it does not matter. Our system is broken forever, as THEY now control the vote. We will soon be a Third World, Marxist hell hole. There is no point in even thinking about the next election. The fix is in.

I certainly am hoping that`s the case, JR... my nagging fear is the electorate saw Romney as TOO far to the political right. Good God, I so hope I`m wrong!

Might want to work on your sense of direction if you think I’m a “lefty.” Unless lefty now means small, limited, way less intrusive government. Most of the real lefties I’ve met are competing with the righties to see who can spend and centrally plan us into oblivion faster.

my original tag line last year was "don't let the media push Ronmey down our throats"

I guess I was right.

Anybody so hard left that they are of the libertarian party, is a nut case.

Libertarian Party Platform:

Throw open the borders completely and shut down the Border Patrol and INS; only a rare individual (terrorist, disease carrier etc.) can be kept from freedom of movement through “political boundaries”.

Homosexuals; total acceptance in the military, gay marriage, adoption, child custody and everything else.

Abortion; zero restrictions or impediments.

Pornography; no restraint, no restrictions.

Drugs; Meth, Heroin, Crack, and anything new that science can come up with, zero restrictions.

Advertising those drugs, prostitution, and pornography; zero restrictions.

Military Strength; minimal capabilities.

They will most likely learn the wrong lesson. Republicans are really good at that.

Romney lost for one reason and one reason only. He did not and could not energize the conservative base to vote or work for him 100%!! He’s a phony, a fraud and everyone right, left and everywhere in between knows it. He couldn’t even beat Juan McCain, for crying out loud. Romney is a loser with a capital “L.” Of course, we’re not saying anything new here. Not breaking new ground. We’ve been shouting it from the rooftops on FR since he and his sodomite/abortionist RINO Twin Rudy Giuliani first started making noises about running for the presidency way back when. NO Rudy McRomney was the battle cry!!

How many times do the fricking GOP-e and their enablers need to learn and re-learn the same lesson? DO NOT RUN RINOs!!

But, admittedly, Romney could have won—had he run as a DEMOCRAT!! Had a perfect record for it in his past pro-abortionism, pro-homosexualism, pro-gun control, pro-global warming, pro-government healthcare, etc, campaigns and as governor of TAXACHUSETTS!!

You were 100% correct. And the GOP-e shoved him right down our throats anyway. And he was puked right back up into their faces. And shocked at the rejection of their false conservative RINO champion, they now they want to shove even more of their RINO statism down our throats. He was too far right (they claim). Gotta make the tent big enough to satisfy the abortionists, sodomites, third world illegal alien invaders and sundry takers of free phones, free lunch. free healthcare. The GOP-e idiots never learn.

NO THANKS!!

We’ve pretty much had open borders for a long time and neither the d’s or r’s will fix that, so why not stop the expensive kabuki theater going on with INS and the border patrol?

I never saw anything in the constitution giving the feds the power to get in the business of sanctioning marriage. I’m happy to leave to the creator, the church and individuals. I think the 10th amendment left that one to the states.

Abortion, again, 10th amendment. If you think it’s murder it belongs with the states anyway, not the feds.

Porn...if college girls want to get naked in front of a camera to pay the bills, that’s her business as long as no one is being forced to buy or watch it.

Drugs. How is that drug war working out after several decades? Is it the only thing keeping you from becoming a junky? How many people were murdered over control of the scotch and gin trade in your town? Are you an alcoholic because it’s legal?

Advertizing the above...I quit watching TV a couple of years ago. Tried to watch recently but it was like reading the contents of my email’s spam bucket. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Market forces and all that.

Military strength...you’re going to get that smaller military anyway when the d’s and r’s finish burying the country in unpayable debt and the fraud based economy crashes. That’s just math, not ideology.

Ryan? This is what he said today:

“Ryan said President Barack Obama deserves to be congratulated for having “a fantastic ground game.”

“He won fair and square,” Ryan said of Obama. “He got more votes, and that’s the way our system works, and so he ought to be congratulated for that.”

Had he been at the top of the ticket, Ryan said, he would have run exactly the kind of campaign that Romney oversaw. Ryan said he and Romney “felt very good about the race we ran.””

You have to say those things. It sucks, but it is what yu have to do in realpolitik.

As far as who is our Conservative Champion, we damn near exhausted the list during this election cycle. Even Ronald Magnus could not pass the FR “True Conservative” test. No one could. Even Her Godessness Sarah has detractors.

I could have said anyone instead of Ryan (thus, the ?) and someone would have attacked.

Maybe we Conservatives need to craft a reasonable criteria, including deal breakers (no obozocare, no open borders) and deal makers (Jeffersonian principles).

At this moment we have NO ONE. The left had no one either (except an old hag whose only qualifications were to have had sex with a POTUS once), then this Kenyan barry kid made a single speech and set the course for American destruction.

I have never been a big proponent of luck as a strategy.

So you support the entire social and cultural agenda of the left, including partial birth abortion and homosexual marriage, and you are honest about supporting the libertarian position of truly, opening the borders, here is their platform on that.

This is the actual, 2004 text of the Libertarian Party Platform on immigration.

COMPLETE PLATFORM TEXT
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND CIVIL ORDER

IMMIGRATION:
The Issue: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new “Berlin Wall” which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government’s policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

The Principle: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.

Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.

The GOP Has Problems With White Voters, Too

Romney’s strong national showing among white voters was almost exclusively driven by historic support from Southern and Appalachian white voters.

--snip--

Outside the South, Romney’s performance among white voters was anything but historic. He ran behind Bush’s tallies in most of the northern half of the United States.

Think of the rust belt, and the claims of Romney shipping jobs overseas. Painting Romney as an evil capitalist appears to have worked. Whites were 60 % of the GOP vote in 2010. Whites were 59 % of the GOP vote in 2012. The drop off appears to be the white working class. The vote for the House doesn't support the notion that too many stayed home. If that's the case, then a lot of them didn't vote for the top of the ticket!

Try reading again. Just because the constitution doesn't give the feds the power to ban it doesn't mean I support it. Maybe you can point out the part that authorizes those powers for everyone here so we can clear that up.

I'm for getting rid of the departments of education, energy, and interior. That's leftest by you? Which cabinet level offices would you defund? And do you really want to go humping party platforms? The GOP doesn't even pay lip service to it's platform anymore.

Quite a list of things there that you embrace.

Usually the lefty/libertarians aren’t so open.

Conservatives find the list in post 48 and the call for opening the borders and ending INS and the Border Patrol in post 57, repugnant, and we fight that kind of thing.

No wonder you just showed up after a 7 year break and are calling for someone to close your account.

I can tell you how to close it yourself, if you want to.
