Biden: 'We've got to get this economy working' before considering 2016 By Justin Sink - 11/09/12 05:26 PM ET

Vice President Biden said Friday that his focus was on helping President Obama to improve the economy, not the potential 2016 run he hinted at on the campaign trail earlier this month.

“There’s plenty of time to think about 2016,” Biden told the Wilmington News-Journal. “We’ve got to get this economy working. If three years from now the economy is not working, it’s not going to be worth doing much. This is all about making Barack an incredibly successful second-term president. That’s my focus.”

Biden had alluded to a possible presidential bid as recently as Election Day, when he was asked after voting if that would be his last time voting for himself.

“No, I don’t think so," Biden said with a grin.

Earlier in the month, Biden seemed to downplay speculation, telling a voter who asked if he's planning to run for president that he was "going to stick as vice president."

The exchange came just days after Biden told the Republican brother of a supporter that the success of Obama administration policies would convince him to "vote for me in 2016."

At the stop Friday in Beloit, Wis., an elderly man asked Biden if he "was going to run for president this time?"

"Oh no, I am going to stick as vice president," Biden said, leaving it unclear whether he was referring to 2012 or an eventual 2016 bid.

But Biden seemed to acknowledge his earlier comment — and the subsequent media coverage — by then pointing to the collected press corps.

"Y'all hear that, press?" Biden said.

Biden has repeatedly sought his party's presidential nomination, most recently in 2008, when then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama ended up as the choice of Democratic voters.

First, congratulations on your win, Joe. Second, they don’t let you run for president from a padded room. Just sayin’.

The Hispanics are going to demand their guy, since the blacks got their guy already.

Actually, I was talking about as the 2016 Democrat candidate. Usually, the prior VP is the presumptive candidate. This will not be the case for 2016. He will be forced to undeclare in lieu of an even-better minority Messiah. This country won’t elect an old white man any more, no matter whether he’s a Democrat or not.

It won’t be Hillary, either that replaces him. She’ll be a minority, Mexican decent or black, or a much younger flaming liberal like Fluke (but not her).

Give it up, Biden. You will NEVER be President.

Don't bet on it. The American electorate elected then reelected a Marxist community organizer. I believe they are easily stupid enough to elect his VP.

In the past, I'd call the possibility of Biden winning in 2016 a total joke. Now, considering what just happened, there appear to be enough idiots in the country to vote in any leftist twit.

I disagree with the minority/gender argument for selecting our next candidate. How many blacks and women and Hispanics and Asians rewarded Reagan and GWB for all of their amazing appointments to the Supreme Court and their Cabinets?

Identity politics doesn’t work for us. It’s all about message and finding the right person to deliver it.

When the government sells 70% of it’s debt to itself and borrows $5.60 for every $1 in economic growth, it’s not going to last much longer.

This house cards is coming down. May it collapse on those who built it and bury them for eternity.

I did indicate in my post that I was talking about "their" candidate, not "ours." I don't really give a flying flip f@ck-all about attracting this or that "minority." I am interested in 'attracting' Americans who value morals, hard work, real ethics and a tradition of real American excellence over fake American takers. If I die a has-been dinosaur who mistakenly believed such tripe, as most Democrats today believe as 'unfair', then so f@cking be it.
