Exactly. I always think back to that scene a few years ago in North Dakota when they were facing enormous spring flooding up around Fargo. This was not long after Katrina, and the Red Cross and FEMA came in fully prepared for a major disaster ... with temporary housing, tents, makeshift shelters, medical care trailers, etc.

Thousands of families were flooded out of their homes, and the news reports I saw in the following days showed all of these facilities sitting completely empty.

Real Americans just figure these things out better than most of us in urban areas who are conditioned to live like domestic pets.

It’s interesting that you mention squirrel hunting in Central Park because just a few weeks ago I read a story about a homeless guy who was arrested for hunting (and eating) squirrels in Prospect Park (Brooklyn).
