Details of Dianne Feinsteins Upcoming Assault Weapons ban begin leaking

Everyone saw this coming. Dianne Feinstein, the Democratic Senator from California and co-sponsor of the USA PATRIOT Act extension, has been rumored to be meeting with ATF officials in the past few days and trying to come up with an outline for her next attempt at passing a new assault weapons ban. It seems like she does this once a year anyway, but in the wake of the Obama re-election people are on high alert for anything gun control related. And this time, it seems like all that practice of introducing failed legislation is leading to a more disturbing version of the bill…

David Codrea at the Examiner received the following tip from a source inside the NSSF:

I just heard that Sen. Feinstein’s attorney is meeting right now with folks from FTB and ATF legal (Eric Epstein [legal], Todd Martin [Legal] and Earl Griffith [FTB] and others) to discuss a new SAW ban, that she would want to start pushing through as soon as (if) Obama gets reelected.

- – No pistol grip allowed - – No HC Mags - – No grandfathering - – No sale permissible if in possession

I mentioned this to a gun-loving buddy of mine the other day and he mocked me, saying it’s never going to happen, he’s bought plenty of assault rifles and he’s never had a problem.

But he didn’t remember the last ten year ban either.

It’s coming, this was entirely predictable.

Finally, even IF she introduces a bill, AND it passes the Senate, AND it makes it out of committee in the House, it still needs to pass the Republican held House before it makes it to the president’s desk. All of which is highly unlikely. Chances are, just like most crackpot bills, it will die a quick death in a Senate committee.

Not that Obamacare went this route, but I seem to recall lots of "ifs, ands, and buts" to reassure us that wasn't going to happen either .... and it DID. By hook or crook ... they'll keep trying to get it done and one of these day, they just might.

She can always quote Mitt Romney.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said. “They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

When asked by a reporter if he supported the renewal of the federal “assault weapons” ban and if he had spoken to the senators about it, Governor Romney replied that it was not really his job to lobby on federal legislation, but that he shared Senator Kerry’s and Senator Kennedy’s position on the issue!

The only way this could happen is if the Repub lose control of the HR in 2014. I know there will be some alarm and price gouging before then, but we are probably safe until then. Of course, we must be vigilant that the weepy-one does not cave on this issue before then.

And to think, in 1962 Thomas J Dodd and Emaual Cellar proposed the first federal law on common firearms.

1962; “We don’t want to an your firearms, we ONLY want to register handguns! Rifles and shotguns will not be affeCted”.

1964: “We only want to register all your guns, not ban them! Only Army surplus guns will be banned.”

1968: “We only want to register your guns, and ban “Saturday Night Specials” and small foreign handguns along with army surplus rifles!” (They got the ban on 5 shot army surplus rifles and handguns and small foreign pistols)

1970: “We only want to ban Saturday night specials! large handguns and rifles will not be affected!” There was also a call at this time to ban all private possession of ALL GUNS.

1976: “We only want to ban all handguns! Long guns will not be affected!”

1981: “The NRA should give up their handguns, and they can keep their rifles!”- Lee Grant on GMA

1984: “We must ban “assault Rifles, unsuitable or hunting!”

1989: George Bush bans import of foreign made “assault rifles:.

1992: Assault rifle ban passed by Clinton.

2000: first calls to ban single shot .50 cal rifles...

and so it continues.
