I may be stating the obvious and maybe its been said already but unless someone threatened to expose an affair why would Gen P. volunteer the info?

No one would. It defies human nature. It would be like going to your boss tomorrow and saying, “boss, I’m giving notice. Ill be leaving in December. Oh, and by the way, I’ve been taking $20s out of the till for a long time.”
Obvious that there is more to this.
