Holder exit would empty tank on Fast and Furious investigation
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 8 November, 2012 | David Codrea

Posted on 11/09/2012 4:35:59 AM PST by marktwain

Attorney General Eric Holder told University of Baltimore law students he may not serve a second Obama term, CBS DC reported today.

“Do I have gas left in the tank?” he asked, saying he still must talk things over with his family and the president about if he “can contribute to a second term.”

Holder’s tank is not the only one running on empty. His departure would effectively strand the Congressional Fast and Furious investigation on the side of the road, along with any chance of determining his level of involvement in decision-making and subsequent stonewalling. A Republican leadership that had no belly for making that a campaign issue would hardly be likely to pursue a private citizen connected to a White House that just beat the best they had to throw at it, if for no other reason than how it would appear.

Even before the election, Holder resigning was something anyone truly interested in determining his culpability should have resisted—which made calls for him to do just that all the more puzzling, as those Republicans making them would have to know that incentive to pursue him once he left office would evaporate. The natural focus of those out of power is on those who hold what they covet.

Once Holder is gone, so will go any chance for political gain, plus Republicans know they’d be painted as bullies in some corners and racists in others if they dared go after him (some have been doing that all along). It just wouldn’t be worth it to them, especially since a reinvigorated Obama is confident that should the trail get too close he retains the pardon option, knowing the media and constituency that returned him to power would back him to the hilt.

The MSM has shown their power to protect Democrats from scandal and prosecution, once again. At least we found out about this one. How many more are there that we know nothing of?

He’s trying to get out of dodge before he can get a 25 to life jail sentence. Why should it matter if he is still in power to get prosecuted?

Although I doubt he’ll do any jail time, I agree it doesn’t matter if he’s in office.

Although I expect his replacement to be worse.

Uhhh, he could avoid a subpoena by resigning? Dopey assertion.

A private citizen, that was once a crime committing politician/government employee, can not be touched because they are no longer in the government ??

I guess Holder plans to irritate us to the end. Why would any cabinet member announce that he might not be back at this stage? Either announce you’re staying, or leaving, or at least keep quiet until you’ve decided.

oh - so this is how a liberal escapes investigation and prosecution?
All they have to do is resign and go home.

Next time a republican finds themselves in a tight spot I’m sure everyone will just let the guy empty out his desk....no more questions asked!

I knew this was going to happen which is why I have zero faith in congressional investigations. They get to a certain point and the subject of the investigation steps out of his position and effectively gets a reset back to square 1.

What we need is for randomly selected civilians to conduct these investigations and hearings. I don’t want to hear any excuses about national security either. When the goal was to arm narcoterrorists to kill as many people as possible in an attempt to attack the 2nd amendment, you’ve gone well beyond any legitimate need for national security secrecy.

Congressional committees can still call former government officials to testify. After W left office, a House committe called in Karl Rove to testify concerning some fired or replaced federal district attorneys.

This goes all the way up to obama. And Holder, the citizen, can still be prosecuted.

Nothing will ever happen to Holder. He is immune to any prosecution forevermore. Yet another example that we live in tyranny.

That almost sounds like a Grand Jury.

Benghazi is “ Fast and Furious “ , Part 2 !
Why else ‘the movie’, murdered U.S. agents, missing guns, weapons , and missles off to antoher criminal element ?
No ‘Executive Priviledge’ here , except that it took 27 days for investigators to get into the country.
Our investigators got bested by CNN by 24 days , and found confidential documents and the ambassador’s journal.
No obfiscation here ,..right ? /sar
