Boehner: Obamacare is law of the land, Ryan not the GOP leader ("slept like a baby" after Obama won)
LA Times ^

Posted on 11/08/2012 4:09:24 PM PST by Arthurio

WASHINGTON – In a wide-ranging interview, House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said raising tax rates is “unacceptable,” vice presidential nominee Paul D. Ryan is not the new leader of the GOP and the reelection of President Obama means the nation’s new healthcare law is “the law of the land.”

Boehner spoke to ABC News’ Diane Sawyer on Thursday, his first post-election interview as the divided Congress prepares to negotiate with the White House over the scheduled year-end tax hikes and spending cuts that economists fear will put the economy back in a recession.

“I’m the most reasonable, responsible person here in Washington,” said Boehner, who is expected to remain speaker in the new House Republican majority. “The president knows it. He knows that he and I can work together. The election’s over. Now it’s time to get to work.”

-snip-

The Ohio Republican said he called it quits at about 11:15 p.m. on election night once Romney was poised to lose, but still “slept like a baby.”

What a selfish jerk. He's happy Romney lost because that makes him the top dog Republican in Washington.

Don't let yourself get agitated by anything from the MSM, particularly not the Wapo/LAT. Likely he meant that he wasn't in the least intimidated by Obama.

Honestly, I don't like the guy, but why waste energy right now hating on him?

We need to make sure that expectation becomes an unexpected pink slip from We the People.

omg just stop. these guys are just political animals used to winning and losing. he still has a safe congressional seat so of course he didn’t sweat the lose. as a matter of fact he probably has more power in congress than as VP. He’s a solid conservative.

I think it is pretty pathetic that FReepers are lashing out at this good man. He retained the majority in the house and given the cards he is dealt, has no choice but to work with the President and the Senate to move the ball as much in our direction as possible.

And, to him sleeping like a baby is not an indication of his happiness with the outcome. Lay off him people.

HE is the only one we have in DC with any power on our side.

“I’m the most reasonable, responsible person here in Washington,”

This comment, in the context of the subject of the discussion, is enough to kick this bast*rd out. Its got that 'kinder gentler' ring to it.

Although I never had much respect for Boehner, I never harbored any contempt for him.

I do now.

No true conservative begins the negotiating process in public with a counterpart that has no inclination of negotiating.

Would Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi say anything close to what he said today if they lost an election and had a full blown partisan bill ready to become full law in one year’s time? Reid was already preparing to oppose Romney before he was even elected.

Boehner is weak. He and Cantor need to be replaced.

My decision not to give these fools money over the past four years has been a good one.

We need to contact our representatives and demand that he is not re-elected as Speaker. The House is all we have right now, and our only way to try to defend freedom. It will take a strong leader, and Boehner is neither a leader, nor strong.

If so, then I retract my statement.

I took it as a backhanded slap at the more conservative members of his own party. Perhaps I took it wrongly.

I'm still waiting for him to step up though.

Unfortunately I am not sure how we could affect a leadership change. The process seems about as closed and secretive as electing a Pope. I guess the first step would be for someone to announce they are running against him

Are you are related to Boehner? He has failed spectatarly in opposing the Obama agenda these last two years. Obama and Reid lead him by the nose from one crisis to the next and all he did was tip toe along. There has been no unified opposition to Obama and that is 100% the failure of Congressional GOP leadership.

If the two stooges retain their leadership 2014 will be a massacre for the GOP.
