Boehner: Obamacare is law of the land, Ryan not the GOP leader ("slept like a baby" after Obama won)

WASHINGTON – In a wide-ranging interview, House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said raising tax rates is “unacceptable,” vice presidential nominee Paul D. Ryan is not the new leader of the GOP and the reelection of President Obama means the nation’s new healthcare law is “the law of the land.”

Boehner spoke to ABC News’ Diane Sawyer on Thursday, his first post-election interview as the divided Congress prepares to negotiate with the White House over the scheduled year-end tax hikes and spending cuts that economists fear will put the economy back in a recession.

“I’m the most reasonable, responsible person here in Washington,” said Boehner, who is expected to remain speaker in the new House Republican majority. “The president knows it. He knows that he and I can work together. The election’s over. Now it’s time to get to work.”

-snip-

The Ohio Republican said he called it quits at about 11:15 p.m. on election night once Romney was poised to lose, but still “slept like a baby.”

What a selfish jerk. He's happy Romney lost because that makes him the top dog Republican in Washington.

I’ll bet he slept like a baby - booze will do that for you. I think he’s an alcoholic.

Don't let yourself get agitated by anything from the MSM, particularly not the Wapo/LAT. Likely he meant that he wasn't in the least intimidated by Obama.

Honestly, I don't like the guy, but why waste energy right now hating on him?

who is expected to remain speaker in the new House Republican majority

We need to make sure that expectation becomes an unexpected pink slip from We the People.

omg just stop. these guys are just political animals used to winning and losing. he still has a safe congressional seat so of course he didn’t sweat the lose. as a matter of fact he probably has more power in congress than as VP. He’s a solid conservative.

I think it is pretty pathetic that FReepers are lashing out at this good man. He retained the majority in the house and given the cards he is dealt, has no choice but to work with the President and the Senate to move the ball as much in our direction as possible.

And, to him sleeping like a baby is not an indication of his happiness with the outcome. Lay off him people.

HE is the only one we have in DC with any power on our side.

“...slept like a baby.”

When you are set with the insiders and your life and that of yours does not depend on productivity or real work, you feel that way.

If he slept like a baby, then he doesn’t care about this country. No way this jerk should be speaker of the house.
