ABC News' George Stephanopoulos talks what President Obama's re-election means for the country on "World News" with Diane Sawyer.
DIANE SAWYER, ABC NEWS: So give me your bottom line on the Republicans now. We talked about the soul-searching, what do they do next?
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Soul-searching, perhaps a civil war. You've got to look at this party right now. They have won the popular vote only once since 1988, in the presidential race. And it was probably best summed up by Al Cardenas, the head of the American Conservative Union (ACU). He said the party is too old, too white and too male. They lost young women, single women by almost 40 points, Hispanics by almost 40 points, blacks by more than 80 points. This is a party that has to create a much bigger tent.

Marl Levin actually suggested something funny tonight: have every young woman that we know to write letters to congress asking for their free birth control.
One of the things that we do not do we’ll is to overwhelm their systems (an Alinsky technique.). Every conservative should start filling out every form for every program—whether they are eligible or not. Making them process forms will bog down their processes for everyone. Collapse their system.
The oldest trick in politics BTW.
I am all for a civil war in the Republican Party as Conservatives must destroy the Karl Rove Wing of the party along with the moderates like McCain and keep Jeb Bush’s ass away from the nomination in 2016, HW, Dole. McCain and now Romney shows what happens when you nominate a Republican Liberal to run a Big Government Marxist.
Whenever a liberal like Stephie says anything such as this it is what they are planning. They mention it now so should it happen by their actions they hope to have planted the seed in everyone’s mind that the “evil, rich, white, Christian conservatives” did it.
"That's ageist,racist, AND sexist!"
It will be the Democrats having a civil war starting today. They have to pick a 2016 candidate who’s not Obama. Let the blood letting begin.
Obama got 9 million fewer votes as well. A lot of ‘mericans just don’t give a sh!t anymore.
The problem is that conservatives in the party were betrayed — long before the primaries Mitt Romney was anointed by the elite leadership, that endorsement and pushing is proof that their vision of the GOP is STATUS QUO/BUSINESS AS USUAL — the people rejected this because Mitt Romney *is* liberal.
Look at the Libertarian Candidate, Gary Johnson, he got more than 1% of the vote!
That’s astounding, especially given that the Democrat and Republicans spent _hundreds_ of times more than the Libertarian party.

Now imagine if the Republican party had run a truly different candidate like Ron Paul (financial policy), Newt Gingrich (judicial policy), or even Johnson... but of course they wouldn’t do that, that means changing things, making things *gasp* different and ending the comfortable go-along-to-get-along nature of the GOP.
I did not hear anything about a “civil war”. I just heard two socialists telling Republicans they have to become socialists to compete with socialists. They want a socialist Tory party to “compete” with them.
They will pick hillary.
Drama Queen
Oh Stephy is so much more than a “news” anchor.Didn’t he work for Clinton WH?
Isn’t he really the one who started the whole birth control issue at a primary? Until the primary, it was never an issue. Dems needed something to run with and apparently it worked.
I have given my children a much better life than I had. I know how one voted. It is their Republic now to save. I am going to reap my rewards. If one wants socialism, so be it.
The party is too RINO!
The party is too willing to take liberaltarians seriously
FWIW, when he says “civil war”, I’m pretty sure he means an ideological war within the Republican party, between old-school conservatives and big-tent “moderates” over the future direction of the party.
The other kind of civil war is not going to have anything to do with the Republican party, but I’d be surprised if we don’t get one of those as well sometime soon.
Yeah they are so gone right, that is why Jeb Bush’s Name is popping up one day after Romney got ran over by a Socialist.
They WANT us to do it. You can tell! They want Obama to have an excuse to turn his browncoats on us and imprison us. This has been in the works for a while....
Civil War 2 against the Greek midget and his pukish ilk. I’ll take my 12 gauge and give Stephy a colonoscopy and perforated bowel.
