Puerto Rico wants to become the 51st state of the US
BBC News ^ | The Day After | 7 November 2012

Voters in Puerto Rico have supported a non-binding referendum to become a full US state.

The measure will require approval from the US Congress, but President Barack Obama has said he will respect the vote.

The island is currently a US territory, which uses the dollar and whose citizens travel on US passports.

But it does not return senators to the US Congress and is represented in Washington by a non-voting delegate.

Almost 80% of the island's electorate took part in the referendum, the fourth in the past 45 years.

With almost all the votes counted, almost 54% voted to change the island's relationship with the US.

And in reply to a second question on what future they favoured, nearly two-thirds wanted full statehood.

If Congress grants its approval, Puerto Ricans would have the right to vote in all US elections, but would also have to pay federal taxes, something at present they are excused from.

Excellent Freeper site, c11, and the pictures are breathtaking. Puerto Rico is the picture of beauty, a leader in earth’s garden spots. Truly God smiled when He’d finished painting Puerto Rico.

As I recall, some US senator realized that a territory of the US could not just be “held”. He realized that that would be covert slavery.

If I “owned” Ohio wouldn’t that raise eyebrows? The same with Puerto Rico. They are a US territory and they have determined they want to push for statehood. We don’t keep slaves, and we don’t cut off our own. It’s that simple.

there are good people who are Hispanics as like any race but liek you said all we have done is enforce the law, gave them amnesty under Reagan and asked that those who come here respect our laws.

The Dems say come here, don;t worry about borders, give welfare, handouts, speak Spanish never learn English, make illegals vote.

Whilst some hispanics come to work the fact is we are attracting a lower, less educated hispanic which sees their handouts and tells each others to vote for Dems because they have the laws which help us

The Dem party always wanted this country to not be a country which is was founded on, it wants a country with whites as a minority though those left wing elitist will live in their white upper class areas.
They don;t want euro heritage , they want a country which is social justice

Puerto Rico is a territory of the US and as such they are not slaves. They have the inalienable rights God gave any human being. The government instituted among them has the President of the USA as their head of state. They have been drafted into our military and fought every war with us since WWI. They retain a place in our legislative system, they contribute to our economy with the exception of some taxes to include income taxes, they are strategically located, and they are beautiful, wealthy, and productive island.

They have voted to join with us, and I, for one, welcome them with open arms as brothers and sisters in the same way I welcomed them as comrades in my years of military service.

There are great Hispanics but the population is being successfully exploited by the Democrat party.

agreed, you said it in a shorter way than I.

I know a family from Bolivia, they have taught their kids English, English is always spoken at their house and out in public.
They know about hard work and have college educations, their child is doing well and works hard.

Problem is that we have so many lower class, less educated immigrants who hear about handouts and think swell that is for me.
Hate laws, special right groups, groups based on color is what is wrong with this country and the Dems will always want to keep these groups to keep themselves in power and sadly many white liberal Dem voting idiots whether in a union or elitist never understand this

Flag..great observation. And while the media keeps us all wrapped up focusing on Our Flag, the obamanites can advance the progressive agenda.

They went 75% for Obama, I think people are justified in not wanting them to be an even bigger part of the electorate. They just want “free” goodies.

That looks like a 2004 map. Obama didn’t win any counties in WV this year, and very few in eastern KY (where Kerry actually won a couple of more counties than Gore had).

But your point is well taken.

Boner is likely to shed a tear and vote for this insanity.

We do not need 3 or more electoral votes for the democrat welfare party.

Great rant. Demography is destiny. This is not just a swing of a political pendulum. This trend is only going to get worse, as 10-15 illegals get amnesty and vote welfare Rat for life.

Ronald Reagan could not win California today, nor any time in the future. Reagan’s America is dead and buried and in the past.

Much thanks to the “Kumbaya conservatives” who assured us that the latino invaders had conservative values and would come around to voting for Republicans.

Useful idiots in the Marxist takeover of their own country.
