Will that help the Senate pass a budget? no
What are the chances of Boner going hard like that in the house?
That is pretty funny.
You’re gonna LOVE your single party rule America. You voted for it.
There is a solution to this threat: NO MORE UNANIMOUS CONSENTS!
Have the senate vote on absolutely everything. Get these people on the record for every single vote they take. No voice votes. Yeas and Nays for everything.
And an extra check is the House. No negotiations with the senate before they pass something. Let them pass a bill, get their members on the record, and then the negotiations with the House begin (as is the proper legislative conference process).
Harry Reid hates to have to take votes. He hates having to put his members on the record. And he hates not knowing whats going to happen ahead of time. He wants himself, Boehner, and Obama to get together, decide whats going to happen, then ram it through.
The answer to tyranny is regular legislative order, each House acting on its own issues, holding votes on them, then going to conference, agreeing on one common piece of legislation, passing it and THEN sending it to the president. There should be lots of votes, lots of conference committees and lots of votes. Make the senators work for their pay!
In the House, majority rules.
Does he really want to do that, because that could come back to bite him in the butt in two years.
Wow, didn’t see THAT coming! /sarc
I don't think he has enough Kleenex.
I sure am glad the NRA helped ol’ Harry out in 2010. /s
Republicans will filibuster the rule change :)
I understand that and I know San Fran Nan understands but I am not sure Speaker Boehner does. I hope he stands tough.
That’s fine Harry, but understand that will be the standard the next time Democrats are in the minority in the senate as well. I expect every Republican senator or candidate to fully and completely agree that we will hold the Democrats to the same standard they put to us, because I can see Democrats expecting to use this but then expecting to get to filibuster when its our turn.
The thing is..while some Republican is standing up filibustering, Reid can just circulate the rules change amongst the senators...they can vote on the rules change and boom No more filibustering. There is no constitutional rule as to how each Branch has to conduct its business...they can put a law forward and draw black and white marbles; a majority of white marbles drawn and the law passes; if that is how they wanted to do it. Now there are Constitutional laws about over turning vetos, passing laws with such majorities as to be shielded from constitutional scrutiny, quorum numbers necessary to conduct business and the like...ect but as to how they conduct their seessions, the Constitution doesn’t have a say!
THAT is b@tch slap worthy! ;D!
