............Speaking in the wake of Tuesdays election, which boosted Senate Democrats numbers slightly, Mr. Reid said he wont end filibusters altogether but that the rules need to change so that the minority party cannot use the legislative blocking tool as often.
I think that the rules have been abused and that were going to work to change them, he told reporters. Were not going to do away with the filibuster but were going to make the Senate a more meaningful place.
Republicans, who have 47 of the chambers 100 seats in this current Congress, have repeatedly used that strong minority to block parts of President Obamas agenda on everything from added stimulus spending to his judicial picks.
A filibuster takes 60 senators to overcome it.
Leaders of both parties have been reluctant to change the rules because they value it as a tool when they are in the minority.
But Mr. Reid said things changed over the last few years when he repeatedly faced off against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, who had said his chief political goal was defeating Mr. Obama. Mr. Reid said that led the GOP to abuse the filibuster.
He did not say what changes he would support, though colleagues of his have proposed several potential changes.
One leading option would eliminate the chance to filibuster bringing a bill to the floor, though it would still let a minority filibuster actual passage. That proposal would also limit the number of amendments allowed by each side.
Senate Republicans say that would only compound the real problem, which is Mr. Reids efforts to limit the number of amendments that can be offered on legislation. They said that when they are shut out of the amendment process, they have little leverage other than to block the entire bill..........

Sure, why not? In fact, John Boehner ought to just give them everything they want. More than they want. Git’er done. In fact, the Republican party ought to just JOIN the Democrat party for 100% rule, and claim victory in the process! Win win for them.
I believe they need 60 votes to change the senate rules. Or at least to get the cloture to vote on changing the rules.
time to man up in the senate and play hardball the next four years. Who cares what the dems say? They’ll say it either way.
LLS
It is time to boycott,filibuster/ Nevada and not go to Vegas/Reno until the mob removes Reid, so he can spend more time with his family.
The mob which controls Nevada has supported and relected Reid over the years.
Just say no to anything from Nevada or going there for a vacation.
Since Obama does everything by executive fiat - and look for this to increase - it scarcely matters what the legislature thinks anyway.
I have not been able to get the “search” engine to work [load] for a couple of days.
Is this a problem for anyone else?
Seeing as the House will become our center of power I believe Boehner must be replaced. What do you think?
The USA as a Nation is toast.
Time for Revolution!
The MSM will now re-term this the “reasonable option” rather than the “nuclear option” of old.
I believe Hussein 0bama has the honor of already having done that.
Study the Hugo Chavez playbook. It is a proven formula and I’ll bet the Dems use it.
Boehner needs to go...my vote is for Allen West.
