Top Republicans in Washington and in the national GOP establishment say the 2010 campaign highlighted an urgent task that they will begin in earnest as soon as the elections are over: Stop Sarah Palin.
Interviews with advisers to the main 2012 presidential contenders and with other veteran Republican operatives make clear they see themselves on a common, if uncoordinated, mission of halting the momentum and credibility Palin gained with conservative activists by plunging so aggressively into this year’s midterm campaigns.
There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of them regard as a disaster in waiting.

Governor Palin would have won and helped the down ticket.
The Governor has a history of winning and succeeding in politics, Romney has a history of losing and failing.
Governor Palin took on both parties and healed the state with the highest approval ratings in history, and Romney damaged his state party, and was forced out of office with 34% approval and forced into giving up his desire to run again, and losing the seat to the dems.
The GOP-e really thought that a billionaire with Wall St. ties would be a great candidate during a depression. This election was a walk in the park for the Communists.
Conservatives could see it coming, but by and large, held their noses and voted Republican anyway. This can’t be blamed on us. It can be blamed on people like Carl Rove and Charles Krauthammer, who disdain Sarah Palin as a country bumpkin. She helped McCain pull about six million more votes than Romney got. So much for their vaunted “expertise.”
And you know she would have won, how? She didn’t fight Obama this election with every breath.
She is making a fitness video and her kid was dancin’ with the stars.
Last night's election returns are the bitter fruit of that really stupid strategy.

You see, Politico is not only a Rat propaganda organ, but it is the weapon of choice for the GOP-E inside the DC beltway. Rove, Rollins, Gillespie, Schmidt, etc all have Mike Allen's phone number on speed dial, and anytime they want to stick a shiv in a Conservative, they call him up and he obligingly does the story.
Palin herself confirmed that it was accurate shortly after it was published in October 2010.

This is Politico and Steve Schmidt is a fool. Anyone with the sense God gave a gnat knows he is a real loser. If they would do it; I think Palin/Limbaugh or visa versa would make a great President and Vice President. I also think Mark Levin would be a great President. Don’t let them drown out the conservative voices. It sounds like they are trying to do just that. The GOP is doing that especially by calling themselves moderates.

He ambushed her after saying that he would not run, and he stuck around just long enough to make sure she was blocked.
Palin is unelectable and damaged goods. Press made certain of that. She’s now happily swimming in money and probably gonna release another book on running or Alaska. I don’t blame her one bit.

We had a weak field, which doesn’t give those who didn’t deign to enter the race a free ride on the outcome.
If Perry’s ‘campaign’ stopped Sarah, she was mightily easy to stop.
Sarah Palin represents social conservatism in the eyes of the GOP-E. They hate socons. They love freepers and ‘conservatives’ who toe the line and vote for whomever they put in front of them.

Perry couldn’t replace her, but he could and did, block her from entering.

She sure hasn’t been “lost” yet, she had spectacular successes during the primary and then stepped back when the primaries were over, she is more important than ever now, as the leader of conservatism.
Laying low for a few months to let Romney assert himself is hardly permanent.
No, the whole point of their psychological campaign was to convince her not to run and for her supporters to back the GOP-E candidate---Romney.
We'll never know what exactly happened behind the scenes following her September 2011 speech in Iowa at the conclusion of her One Nation tour (when all signs pointed to a run), but I suspect that she got word (probably via McCain or Malek) that the GOP-E would not support her against Obama, even if she swept the primaries and won the nomination, thereby losing before any nascent campaign could start.
It's the GOP-E way---kill its fastest prize filly before she could even get into the gate to run the Kentucky Derby.
Poor Sarah, the big mean boys tricked and thwarted her presidency.
