ELK GROVE (CBS13) An Elk Grove mayoral candidates campaign sign was spray-painted, and the person accused of doing it is also a candidate.
And I just about fell over, said Sophia Scherman, whose sign was vandalized. I couldnt believe when I heard the name.
That name fellow candidate LaWanna Montgomery.
For Scherman, this isnt about politics its personal.
At this point in time, an apology is too late, she said Monday.
A witness called the cops after seeing someone with a bag over their head spray-painting a Scherman sign late Saturday night.
Police say the suspects car is registered to none other than mayoral hopeful Montgomery.
Officers cited Montgomery at her home. The police report noted she had weeds stuck in her sandals like those near the sign.
Montgomery denied the allegation on Monday in an interview with CBS13′s Nick Janes at her home.
You did not vandalize that campaign sign? Janes asked her.
No sir, I did not do that, she said. Why would I do that?
I dont know, you tell me. Thats what police say.
That makes no sense. That makes no sense.
Montgomery, who has lost two prior City Council races, insists shes the victim of a conspiracy involving council members to force her into dropping out of the race.
She claims someone has broken into her home to steal files, that her house has been egged and that last Friday someone approached her and spit on her car at a Safeway shopping center.
You think youre being pushed out of the race? Janes asked her.
I believe someones trying to scare me, she said.
Someone associated with the City Council?
I believe that. Can I prove it? No.
Who, who on the City Council?
I dont know that. I dont want to say any names.
You do understand listening to this sounds incredibly bizarre.
Bizarre things have happened sir, she told Janes. Stranger things have happened.
Neither Sherman nor Montgomery claims to have anything against each other. In fact, both say they havent spoken in years.
But each believes shes being targeted in a mayoral race thats now gone far past politics.
I dont know whats going through her head and to have someone like that as our mayor? Scherman said. No, absolutely not.
But Montgomery says she will not drop out of the race. Scherman says she welcomes their first debate.
Okay, this made me LOL. It goes back a few months, but hasn't been posted previously as far as I can tell (using Google)... a little election day humor for you.
Thank you, LaWanna, for making my job a leeetle easier today!
A little more Elk Grove humor:
Before Elk Grove became indistinguishable from Sacramento
the one local high school mascot was the Thundering Herd
(alma mater of Chi Bears Lance Briggs & NBAs. Bill Cartright) .
Prior to the athletic teams gaining some success the football
coach and his wife were busted for running a house of
ill repute complete w/ S & M features in the middle of a
normal neighborhood. As the story was unfolding on TV a rival
football coach drove up to the Sierras and liberated a road
sign. He took the sign back to the Valley and attached it to
the city limits sign.......ELK GROVE CITY LIMITS.....CHAINS
REQUIRED.
LaWanna be mayor.
Lol..well done!
Bag her, Dano!
