In the final hours of the presidential campaign, the largest endorsing newspaper in the swing state of Wisconsin has thrown its support to GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
In an editorial published Sunday, the Wisconsin State Journal said:
This is not an easy endorsement to make.
Obama is the more likeable candidate and inspiring speaker. Obama inherited a mess from his predecessor, Republican President George W. Bush, who was even more disappointing than Obama has been.
Obama got us out of Iraq. He pressured public schools to reform. He gave the final order that got Osama bin Laden.
But this election is about jobs, the slow economy and Washington’s dysfunction. Our leaders can’t even pass a budget, much less stabilize soaring debt that’s burdening our children and grandchildren.
Obama failed to embrace his own commission’s bipartisan debt deal. Ryan, serving on the commission, similarly balked at the solid and comprehensive agreement. But Obama is the president. The buck stops with him. This is now Obama’s economy, even though the GOP shares in the blame for partisan games.
This endorsement may be even more significant since the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel decided not to endorse either presidential candidate this year.

Big. That paper has very good penetration even in Madison, and is definitely lefty.
The paper itself is overpriced and undersized, but the Sudoku puzzles and Jumble on the Take Five page are okay.
Even journalists can’t live like this anymore.
I’m side eying all these liberal papers right now.
The New York Daily News endorsed Romney today as well. That means three out of the four NYC area dailies have endorsed Romney.
God’s blessing.
Can’t lose.
Sounds like me. I buy a copy of the Detroit Free Press every once in a while when I want to do a Crossword Puzzle. I use the rest to wrap the garbage with.
That is proof that some Democrats are voting for Romney this time
It’s nice to see some major papers flipping but the national problems the cite didn’t just pop up last week. Where were they over the past four years while the country suffered from a complete lack of leadership and the economy steadily worsened? Now, at the eleventh hour, they are suddenly concerned about the sorry state of the country after four years of political failure at the top.
To your question, I’m not sure these “death bed conversions” will have much impact.
Call me “shocked”
Madistan newswraps are the Wisconsin version of Pravda. Both of them!
I might have to save a copy and frame it

It matters little. New York is rock solid Dem and sadly those electoral votes are in the bag for the Usurper.
The Dayton Daily Democrat has chosen to not endorse at all - they always endorsed the Democrat in the past. When I dropped my subscription after the Clinton endorsement, they called me asking “What would it take to get me back as a subscriber?” I told them they could start by firing their entire editorial staff, especially the ones that moved over into the op-ed page so only one side was presented. They hung up on me.

Does this guy write comedy for SNL????
I grew up in Madison. I think H3ll just froze over!
Too little too late is what I think. “Madistan” is solid Demmodummies. Even if this fishwrap paper endorses Romney, they won’t change their minds and vote for him. More like ‘window dressing”. If they had made such and endorsement a month ago, things might have swayed slightly to Romney/Rayn. Might be too little, too late.

The point is not that NY will go GOP. It won’t. What it means is that these papers see a Romney endorsement as something which will bestow credibility on themselves. They think he’ll win anyway, so they are going with the tide. The Daily News endorsement is actually very well written.
My view is that a lot of these endorsements are just one time events. Highlighting Obama’s failings over a longer period of time probably would have had an impact on voters but the press has been, as Rush so aptly puts it, “drive by’s” who willfully ignored anything that was not positive to the administration.
I’m afraid it’s too little too late, to help sway the election in a meaningful way. But you may be right that this might sway some of the fence sitters that are still out there.
They think hell win anyway, so they are going with the tide.

A good point. Nobody likes to be on the winning side.
And I agree that some of these editorials are actually well written (excluding the one posted here). The Sun Sentinel (in Broward/Palm Beach of all places!) had a very good editorial endorsing Romney as did the Detroit News.
