EPA Regulations Wreak Havoc on Ohio Coal, Electric Companies
Red State ^ | 11/1/2012 | staff

The Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rules imposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are taking a toll on Ohio’s coal industry and are expected to increase citizens’ electricity costs. Utility MACT, a series of bureaucratic regulations created under the Clean Air Act with the support of President Obama and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), has already caused coal-fired plant closures and layoffs.

Even as natural gas production ramps up in the state, the fact that 82 percent of Ohio’s electricity is generated using coal suggests Utility MACT will also increase energy costs statewide. Natural gas prices paid by utility companies hit a 10-year low of under $2 per million British thermal units in April 2012, but Reuters reported on October 24 that prices have risen substantially as national production has flattened and an expected cold winter approaches.

Thanks for the EPA closing plant link - I’m spreading it around.

We will generate power with clean, nonfracked natural gas

We will get much more power out of unicorn farts and pixie dust than what you suggest ...

WV coal mines have been shut down by the EPA.

Yep ... I'm very angry about that ...

"We" voted for McCain last time, will almost certainly vote for R0mney this time.

The real problem is that "we" continue to vote for democRat turds like Manchin.

I'm supporting John Raese for Senate ... hope it does some good.

If you think there is sufficient "nonfracked" natural gas to generate more than a small fraction of our energy requirements in the future, you're sadly mistaken.

And, if you are anti-fracking, you have fallen victim to envirowhacko propaganda and are grievously malinformed.

I’ve driven by the New Castle plant a lot when I go to Hermitage from time to time. This plan has to stop and the EPA defunded and told to go something that is biologically impossible.

No state is spared from getting turds somehow slip in and cause calamity one way or another and most voters don’t pay attention. My brother keeps me updated a bit on WV. I’m believing obama days are over with LOTS of clean up to do. The EPA needs to be abolished as the first order of business after obamacare. I know Newt had that on his agenda.

Now I’m hoping for an early Tuesday night with no rebellion from ‘the boy’. Then those in charge can put the Lazer on Barry Benghazi and make his last days torturous.
