-snip-
Before long, a line farther than the eye could see snaked through local streets and no one --police officers nor Army personnel could tell NY1 who was in charge. It was first come, first serve.
One car waiting in line used up a quarter of a tank trying to find the end of the line.
"We've been around the block four times already," said the driver. "The National Guard was standing there and said they were just here for support. The cops told us to go down this block. It's full pandemonium, chaos out here."

Is the lack of government support in the disaster causing these blue areas to shift toward Romney?
Doubtful. But it should keep them home on election day.
Amazing. Obama was handed this election’s end game on a silver platter. And yet, the despair people are experiencing from Sandy has caught the attention of the nation. So has his “revenge”.
Turns out, the very best revenge is not voting.
People who live near the coast, should obviously be well educated that when a storm approaches, you go and fill up the gas tank, run water into the bath tub, and stock up on batteries, drinking water and food. They are a bunch of welfare junkies, and I bet many of them are finding it hard to get their cocaine dose, and they are getting like animals caged in the same cage with the tigers, the bears and the monkeys.
In my neck of the woods, the gas stations are very much back to normal. Very short lines, if any and no price gouging. In fact nearby in Matamoris, PA the prices actually went DOWN a few cents, though you can fill up your car, but are restricted to just one 5 gal. gas can per ustomer.
Yep. If you gave 0bama a bar of gold he would drop it on his foot.
They’re bringing in “voting trucks” to the Rockaways because there’s no power anywhere on the peninsula.
I’s be here for sum of dat Obama gas. Kens I charge my Obama phone whiles I’s wait?
The people who know what’s going on aren’t suffering. They’ll vote for their messiah. The people who are suffering won’t be able to vote or will chose not to vote.
No, they are still stupid libs.
(2) Everyone I know stocked up on water, food, batteries, prescriptions, sterno, and gasoline ahead of Sandy.
(3) The first day of the storm was Monday. It is now the sixth day. Most people in the Northeast commute close to an hour for work and their gas tank holds about three days' worth of gas. Most people have made it through their gas tanks and through half or more of their stores.
(4) I am more of a prepper than most, but my power will not be back before Wednesday. By that time I will be through more than 50% of the stores I was able to bring with me when I evacuated. I will likely be out of gas around then as well.
(5) Like most of the people hardest-hit by this, I am a taxpayer and I make my own way in the world without handouts. The monopolists of local infrastructure - i.e. the government - should have been able to restore power in less than 10 days. That is their obligation to me and I feel no shame in demanding that they honor it. I pay good money in utility bills and good money in taxes for these services.
(6) think before you post.
Twice, don't forget Bengazhi. He could have been a hero that day, instead chose to be the villian.
While it ain't over till it's over, it's looking more and more as though Tuesday is the formality of what even BHO knows is coming.
Some Dem wanted to bet me on the outcome Tuesday. I refused, and said it would not be fair to him to take his bet. He first looked confused, then a bit angry at my certainty of Romney's win. I refused because he gets his news from MSM, and thus is totally ignorant on the state of things.
Wish I'd taken it, just to be polite.
Yup, everything Obama touches turns to cr@p
Just wait until Obama gives us free medical care.
I filled up both my cars before the storm and haven't needed gas yet.
Still I can't even drive around town because the gas station lines are blocking intersections and there are still downed polls and transformers blocking our streets.
Six days without power and I still have yet to see a utility truck in my town.
The one time I was able to watch television, all I saw was Obama and Christie blowing smoke up each other's asses.
They confiscate half of every dollar I earn, and they don't do a single thing for me when I actually could use them.
If they stop taking my money, I'll stop expecting services.
