I wouldn't hold this against Christie, either. Here in the NYC metro area we have this bizarre combination of circumstances with half the population (and most businesses) getting back to normal as quickly as possible, while others are lined up at gas stations with red gas cans to refuel those generators they all bought after Hurricane Irene in 2011. Meanwhile, people in parts of NYC are digging food out of dumpsters, defecating in the upper floors of tall apartment buildings with no power, and running around claiming that they're all going to die.

After what I've seen for the last few days, I'm now convinced that a hurricane is the worst type of disaster a region like this can face. The biggest problem is that unlike other major disruptive events, things kind of seem normal enough after a day or two that people and businesses start functioning as if there is nothing wrong even while receovery efforts have barely started. A major blizzard would be the exact opposite case, since there is no way in hell anything can possibly seem "normal" while there is still two feet of snow on the ground and cars stranded in snowdrifts all over the place.

Politicians suck up to Power, Fame, and Votes. Anything else is just a coincidence. Print it on a label and show people that you care.

I think Tsunamis are probably the worst type of disaster. As bad as this is, a massive surge of 50’ from the other side of the Atlantic could wipe half or more of those states off the surface of the earth.

Look at the deaths in the Indian Ocean from the tsunami out there.

It makes our hundred or so look very small in comparison.

The damage here is widespread too though.
