Imagine going to vote for your presidential candidate and pushing the button on a touch-screen voting machine -- but the "X" marks his opponent instead.
That is what some voters in Nevada, North Carolina, Texas and Ohio have reported.
But in response to the growing number of complaints, the Republican National Committee has sent a letter to election officials in six states -- Ohio, Nevada, Kansas, North Carolina, Missouri and Colorado -- demanding tighter controls on touch-screen machines.
Multiple voters from several states wrote Fox News to report problems similar to what Stevens reported.
"While it is possible for a voter to inadvertently select a candidate, it is not possible for the machine to automatically select a candidate."
Miller notes that similar allegations were investigated in his state during the 2010 election, with the assistance of the FBI. Authorities found that claims that machines "were pre-programmed, malfunctioning or in any way preventing any voter from casting a ballot for the candidate of their choice were without merit."
Miller, a Democrat, brands the Republican demand to election officials as "based upon rumor, hearsay, or unconfirmed media reports," as well as "irresponsible" and "unfortunate."
He said his office has "not received any direct, first-hand complaints from voters."
Lorain County did replace 400 of its 1,200 touch screen machines last year.
Adams also notes that there is what is called "a paper trial," like a receipt, where voters can see their choices printed out. He also says that anybody who has a problem voting should immediately tell elections officials.
Nevertheless, Joan, who said she finally was able to cast a correct vote after three attempts, advises fellow voters to confirm their choices.
"Be very careful when you vote. I don't care who you vote for, just double-check."

Let me translate that:
Although hundreds of poll workers have reported voter complaints, we haven't gotten any directly from any voters, so the complaints are hearsay and invalid...
Wonder how else they are cheating.
I detest early voting. If you are voting early, bear in mind that your vote will likely be counted for Obama as the Democrats will be able to cheat at leisure. I prefer that we storm the voting booths on Election Day like we did the Chic-Fil-A’s earlier this year. They won’t know what hit them and they will be so overwhelmed that they will have little time to engage in hanky-panky.
This should be the end of this kind of voting. Even if we have to go to paper ballots and get the honest results a day later.
I to hate early voting, but ALL early voting in OH ids basically absentee, but in person. NO MACHINES ARE USED! All paper ballots.

Voters can see a printout of their choices. That doesn’t guarantee that what is recorded at the other end corresponds to the choices.
Paper (punch card) ballots aren’t the perfect solution, either. They can be pulled at the computer counting center as “non processable), sent to a Facsimile Board where (alleged) duplicate ballots are punched by little old ladies, then the new ballots arere-run through the computers. Depending on where the Board members’ loyalties lie, anything can happen.

Once the votes on these machined are tallied there is no record. Only the count. So we have to trust they have not been preprogrammed for tricks. The evidence shows that such trust is not warranted. These machines must have been ordered to fit Democrat specifications. I wonder how heavy handed the count falsification will be?
Now THAT’S typical of spineless Republicans—send a letter!! Don’t send anybody to the reported polls to find out what’s going on. Why, there might be unpleasantness! A confrontation!! And then, the little piss-ant, GOP puss will be called a RAAACIST. Can’t have that, now can we!!!
No. We’ll just let Obama win and be happy with the modicum of power Democrats are kind enough to allow us! Screw the US. As long as we remain in office, all is well!
Touch screens are out of calibration. Either because morons setup the machines or someone pushed in the wrong places during calibration to make it think when you push on the check box for the R it’s actually a D vote a inch or two over.
Easy to fix. But I suspect it was intentional.
When punching the button for Romney and randomly getting Obama it is meant to happen.
I have 40 years in Aerospace Computer Experience, There is no such thing as a “Computer Glitch”, I repeat there is no such thing as a “Computer Glitch”. They are Planned Technical Difficulties. Newscasters do not know how to explain them, so they are called “Glitches”
If an event i.e. (If Romney-vote goto Obama-vote or If Obama-vote goto Obama-vote) if this is programed it will happen, other wise it does not happen. So the Obama people or surrogates want this to happen.
These can be programmed to happen every time or randomly, as they appear to be happening currently.
BUt then again - if a person votes for Zero, there is a good chance his brain is so tired from sounding the name out that he wouldn't have enough left to notice a change at the end...

OTOH, there can be unintentional inputs. A dangling cuff or bracelet, steadying one’s hand on the heel, etc.
I went through utter heck trying to diagnose, over the phone no less, my mom’s random opening of windows and moving of icons.
Turned out she’d crush the mouse when moving it from one place to another. In her mind this was getting a firm grip, the computer thought of it as deliberate clicks.
But as you say, what’s happening with the voting machines is no accident.
