BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
A burglar got more than he bargained for when he targeted the wrong house in Jefferson County.
The woman he was trying to steal from fought back and shot him.
"I was awakened with a gun in my face hollering 'give me all yo money and give me all yo jewelry' and I screamed 'I don't have any money and I don't have any jewelry,'" the victim, who does not want to be identified, said. "That didn't satisfy [him]. Then he asked me about everyone in my house during this time I'm fumbling to get my gun. He pushed me down. I got up fought back."
Deputy Chief Randy Christian from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the suspect had an air rifle, similar to a BB gun.
"She didn't know that at the time, she thought it was loaded. He knew it though. Sometime during the struggle, he put that down took out a keyhole saw. He cut her a few times superficially with that," Christian said.
The victim was cut on her stomach and on her arm.
"Kept on fighting and another person in the house got up to see what the dogs were barking at and that distracted him. When that distracted him I finally got to my pistol and fired a round," the victim said.

Good news story. I hope she plugged him good. If she said “Yo no mo” as she fired, it would be fine with me.

In this day and age the American people need to armed more than ever. I have heard of so many home invaders being shotand killed this last year. In years past I had heard of so many victims that were robbed and tortured by them as well as kidnapping them. A good friend of mine had his family held at gunpoint by two black thugs (funny how you never hear about Hispanic or white guys doing this) and tied up while they drove him to an ATM to dump out all of his cash. He knew the guy was going to shoot him and dump his body afterwards so he jumped out of he vehicle. When he did he crushed part of his eye orbital (which has been reconstructed) and id irreparable damage to his neck and caused his thyroid to stop operating properly. He has as several facial reconstructions but has never looked quite the same. Those thugs had no remorse for what they did and are little more than animals. After hearing that I keep a loaded gun ready for any home invasion thugs. The way I look at it, if I shoot them I’m going to make sure they’re dead so they can’t sue me and I will keep someone else from being robbed.

So a 30 year prison sentence may only mean a year or two in an actual prison.
Our state justice systems have been sabotaged.

Yes there are plenty of nonblack thugs, but “African American” is overrepresented per population capita in thugdom.
If shooting, try very hard to make the first shot count. Forensics are well nigh supernatural today and if you keep on shooting a downed assailant you will get into a heap of trouble because it will be obvious to medical investigators that you did.
I expect OSHA to be stepping in soon to protect criminals from these workplace hazards. After all, criminals have to eat, same as buzzards and worms...
As an aside, she was using a portable oxygen concentrator, which can be bought on ebay for $300-500 or so. They are a godsend to people with diminished lung capacity, and a lot easier to haul around than an oxygen tank.
It can be the difference between bedridden with diminished mental capacity and ambulatory with full mental function.
One shoots until the threat stops being a threat. If they are down and you still consider them a threat keep shooting.
The law say a doctor not you have to call "time of death" for a reason.
The incident shows that burgulars(down home pronunciation) are still not expecting a woman to have and be willing to use a loaded gun. That will change but for the time being it's a good thing.
And you are going to have to spend far more in defense costs and cool your heels longer in jail for trial if the forensics show you shot a fallen assailant in the back.
Save your advice for someone who hasn’t been legally conceal carrying for fifteen years.
Better yet quit giving stupid advice all together.
Carrying schmarrying, have you shot in such a way and been through it?
