Having spent a good bit of time nursing a GLD (ground Laser Designator) in several garden spots around the world, something from the report jumped out at me.
One of the former SEALs was actively painting the target. That means that Specter WAS ON STATION! Probably an AC130U. A ground laser designator is not a briefing pointer laser. You do not “paint” a target until the weapons system/designator is synched; which means that the AC130 was on station.
Only two places could have called off the attack at that point; the WH situation command (based on POTUS direction) or AFRICOM commander based on information directly from the target area.
If the AC130 never left Sigonella (as Penetta says) that means that the Predator that was filming the whole thing was armed.
If that SEAL was actively “painting” a target; something was on station to engage! And the decision to stand down goes directly to POTUS!
This is HUGE. It should be obvious by now that someone is not telling the truth.

No, it said that a Spectre was **probably** on station but if, as Panetta says, it never scrambled, then it was an armed Predator. Bottom line: there is no painting of a target without there being SOMETHING real nearby ready to drop ordnance...and somebody VERY high up stopped it. I, too, would like to see firm evidence on this and other aspects up this f’ed up tragedy, but POTUS and his crew are desperately trying to classify everything to prevent it from blowing up pre-election. This means that all ANYONE can do is speculate, unless they’re in the know and wish to risk a court martial or criminal charges.

What kind of a directive is that based on what was going on at the time? That sounds more like a statement that has gone through 10 or 15 lawyers before it was even said.
Any executive that would give such a “directive” should get an “F” because it doesn’r really say much of anything. It is a statement that can later be twisted this way and that.
It in no way gives anyone any idea what to do. “Do what we need to” what the hell does that mean?
Just put those comments in place of some of our most famous moments in history where the Commander in Chief needed to act decisively. He didn’t say that. If he did how did anyone (subordinate) know “what we need to do” means?
Is “what we need to do” mean NOTHING?
Maybe so. Maybe after a 5 pm conversation with Panetta and the General they decided that what they need to do is NOTHING. Then the Directive was given. “Do what we need to do”. Panetta interpreted it as NOTHING.
Calm down, we’ll get this all sorted out after Nov 6. /s
Obama couldn’t be bothered with these details, he had a campaign event to attend.
