Brought back memories. I remember seeing this movie back in late 1970 or early 1971 at a drive-in movie in Los Angeles which was long ago replaced by a Cadillac dealership.
After that enlightening experience, the Walther Mathau character went in search of a rich woman. He met a mousey woman played by Elaine May, as I recall, who had lots of money. At first he hated her but kept up the relationship for the money. As time went by, because she was so good, he realized the error of his ways and fell madly in love with her.
1971 movie. Critically acclaimed, but disappointing box office. Available on Amazon.
