BEIRUT -- A Greek Orthodox priest has been found slain after being kidnapped near the Syrian capital of Damascus, the Syrian government and the Vatican news service reported Thursday.
The body of the Rev. Fadi Jamil Haddad, pastor of St. Elias Church in Qatana, outside Damascus, was discovered in the Jaramana district of the capital, reported Agenzia Fides, the Vatican news service. The site was not far from the area where he was kidnapped by an unidentified armed group" last Friday, the agency said.
The Vatican agency quoted a colleague saying the priest had been horribly tortured.
The official Syrian news service said the priest was found with a gunshot wound to his head. The government news agency blamed the crime on terrorists, its usual characterization of the armed opposition fighting to oust President Bashar Assad.
According to the official account, the priest was abducted while seeking the release of another person who had been kidnapped by militants.
But it was not clear if the priests slaying was political, sectarian or criminal in nature. Many Syrians have complained of a breakdown in law and order and a spike in kidnapping for ransom and other crimes as security has deteriorated. Opportunistic criminals have moved to take advantage of the nation's security void.

“Enter, my good and faithful servant.”
Probably the “Religion of Peace”, but then I am just a dumb Midwesterner who lives in Michele Bacmann’s district, so I am not PC.
muslims despise Christians
islamism calling
God, receive the soul of Fr Haddad.
Vatican puts off Syria trip because of 'gravity of the situation'
Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Rev. 2:10)
Memory eternal.

You forgot to add that you are a bitter clinger....
All iof these articles hould be required reading in every American civics class.
Islam is the religion of death, hate and brutality and we need to STOP letting anymore of these villains in to the west and DEPORT the rest back to the lands of their philosophical forefathers and lock them in there.
I believe this priest is Melkite rather than Greek Orthodox as represented by the la times.
Not sure, but I believe the seat of the Melkite church is in Antioch, Syria.
The Melkite’s have maintained communion with Rome.
St Jude is a revered Melkite Saint.
I will say a prayer to St Jude for this priest and a prayer for any papal emissaries entering into Syria.
Memory eternal! Memory eternal! Memory eternal!
Holy New-Hieromartyr Fadi pray to Christ God that our souls may be saved!
That was my first thought too.
No doubt triggered by a you-tube video.
RIP...
All ye holy martyrs of God, pray for us!
You’d not find a government school teacher who’d ever mention any of this. They know their purpose is indoctrination. They’re liberals and they have our children.
You’ll have to do the educating on your own.
Given the sexual proclivities and cruelties of Muslim animals, it is likely this poor priest suffered horribly from homosexual violence.
Just one more sad incident proving that we are in a religious war: Islam against ALL other religions and governments. How much more prodding do we need before we take decisive action? (I know, I know... it was really more of a rhetorical question...)
The Tea Party and Free Republic should collaborate on a nationwide program to educate school kinds on Saturdays about the realities of history, Islam, and American exceptionalism - and its sources - from Ancient Egypt through Ancient Greece and Rome and on into England with Anglo-Saxon Common Law, Magna Charta, and the Enlightenment.
Its past time Marxist and “multi-cultural” psychobabble was put into the grave of discredited political ideas where it belongs!
I would be MORE than willing to volunteer my services.
