Love hopes to be 1st black GOP woman in Congress
AP/Washington Examiner ^ | 10/26/12

In her bid to become the first black Republican woman elected to Congress, Mia Love is the GOP's emblem of diversity this campaign year. She's reluctant to embrace the role, saying she doesn't let race or gender define her politics.

The 36-year-old mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, points to her policy stances as the reason for her success.

"I was elected mayor not because of my race or gender, not because I wear high heels, but because of the policies I put in place," Love said in a recent interview.

Polling shows Love with a slight lead over Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson, a six-term incumbent. The race is still too close to call.

Hope she’s ready for the wrath of the ultra-racist Democrats.

We may have at least 4 Black Republicans in the House come January, so she won’t be alone. Besides Mayor Love, Mayor Vernon Parker in Arizona should be the other new member elected this year (joining Tim Scott of SC and Col. Allen West in FL). The future Congresswoman Love should have a very bright future ahead of her.

Well on our way to a Republican Black Caucus. No need to join up with the race baiting, perpetual woe is me Black DEMS and their phony Caucus. Maybe Blacks will pull there head out of the sand to new ideas that will really help.

I just wish conservatives would stop patronizing Mrs Love as “their” token black female

“Look, we have a bracelet too!”

Just let her be a conservative GOP congressional candidate- that is all she wants!!!

The fact is that Mia Love is brilliant conservative candidate and she is black. Black counts. To discount that fact is to negate political reality.

She is from Utah. In Utah her blackness is not as prominent as it would be in say Philadelphia because she does not have a significant black constituency.

By extension, she is young and loud and articulate. She is a wonderful example for black women. He blackness can allow her conservative message to penetrate far beyond her Utah home

The adage “if you’ve got it, flaunt it” comes to mind

Mia Love does NOT WANT to be flaunted.

I respect that.

I wish more did and would stop using her race to pander to the folk.

It is the soft bigotry of gushing over someone who does not fit stereotypes- including our own. When black stops “counting”, then we will have broken the racial barrier. That is what Mia Love is telling us. Listen to her.

I understand precisely what you are saying.

There is however political reality. In the national arena as a star, her blackness is part and parcel of the political package

She is learning the same lessons as Sarah Palin did transitioning from small town mayor to the big time.

I agree. Stop the patronizing. She is strong enough & smart enough to stand on her own. More Americans should follow her lead.

I saw her interviewed; smart, articulate, likeable and well informed. But to the left, an abominable sex & race traitor! Not running as a RAT- oh, the horror!

Tim Scott will be reelected in a landslide; Allen West will be reelected by a 5%-10% margin; and Mia Love will win by a 3%-7% margin. As for Vernon Parker, I’d say that he has about even odds of winning, and it should be a 1%-2% race either way; hopefully he’ll be the fourth black Republican in the House. It will be the first time the GOP will have for black U.S. Representatives since 1877.

I have a good feeling about Parker’s chances, knock on wood.

I think the rat Barber will hold his seat.

What do you make of the AZ-1 race?

Just the same, visible Black faces in the GOP is essential to breaking the iron grip the rats have on that vote. I don’t give a damn but people tend to favor their own races and ethnicities.
