Just before midnight on a Sunday, a Miramar couple and their college student daughter were preparing for bed in their home in a gated community. Suddenly, three masked intruders tried to bull their way through the front door.
Armed with a handgun, the 55-year-old homeowner opened fire, falling backward to the floor as he pulled the trigger. One of the would-be robbers, hit by several bullets, collapsed on the front porch. The other two ran for their lives.
Police called the Sept. 30 shooting justified. The man's 24-year-old daughter said, "My father is a hero. We're just fortunate to be alive."

Miramar, close to my old stomping grounds in Lauderdale.
With family in the home, it’s safe to say this guy is a real hero. Who knows what horrors he saved that daughter from.
Take notice home invaders. Folks aren’t going to roll over for you. You’ll won’t get Liberal justice. You’ll get right wing justice, short and sweet.
Kudos home owner!
Can the accomplices be charged with murder? A death took place during the commission of a felony. Just send those guys off to the big house, and toss the key.
I don’t know but perhaps others here can share.
I just finished an article about the Long Island cop killed and a driver (not the one who hit him) is being charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

Yep, they can be charged with murder and probably will.
If that was the DUI HR driver, good. I honestly don’t see how the Escalade driver escapes prosecution though. You MUST be watching the road, and avoiding any obstacle in your lane. When a death results from you not complying with this, you are at fault. That would have to be grounds for another second degree murder charge wouldn’t it.
Maybe there were extenuating circumstances, like the Escalade driver being shielded until the last second, so that he couldn’t see.
Thanks for the mention.
Okay. Great. Just keep them off the streets. If they’re that big a looser, they need to be locked up. Thanks.
In Florida, yes.
Good. Thank you.
A gun in the hands of an honest person is a very good thing.
