President Barack Obama needed a game-changing night here in Hampstead, New York and Mitt Romney made sure he didn't get it. Over the 90 minutes, Obama might have edged it - just - but strategically he did little if anything to blunt Romney's growing advantage.
Just as Al Gore over-compensated for his poor first debate in 2000, we saw a completely different Obama this time around. He had clearly had some intensive coaching from his debate prep team and was acting under orders to do change everything. Romney strategist Stuart Stevens quipped afterwards that he became 'Joe Biden without the charm'.
The problem is that the difference was so stark it was jarring. And by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Romney - we had tax rates, Bain, big bird and the 47 per cent - there was more than a whiff of desperation. While Obama flung mud, Romney was intent on dismantling Obama's record in office.

The daily mail really has no reason to give a damn one way or the other who wone the debate last night.
So many good points in the article (which confirms my instinct that as time goes on, Romney will prove to be the 'winner' of this debate), but I'm going to focus on this one ..... another HUGE line for Romney - the focus group (Luntz) mentioned it more than once ... Romney: "We can do better than this" and "we don't have to live this way". Really resonated with the people.
Candy picked the questions, her actions during debate fired up Romney voters and people who despise the media. Romney is now the more likable.

If Barry O doesn’t start showing some improvement after this debate, you can probably count on some ‘dog wagging’ in the form of military operations against twice the number of ‘usual suspects’ within Libya by Sunday. Having a debate regarding foreign policy would be somewhat problematic for Romney if Barry just bombed Benghazi and everybody is required to show support for the Commander in Chief, or look unpatriotic in not doing so.
Now that Romney has twice proven himself competent, caring, articulate, energized, and ready to go to work to turn this around -- gravity will now be the irresistible force on Obama in this race. He will lose this race and it is not going to be close.
The thing President Romney showed me was that he can more than hold his own in a room loaded with Regressives, all gunning for him. It’s going to be that way at Press conferences for the next four years.
Nothing “new” or “improved”.
As usual, Barack can only put up a “fight” from behind the skirts of some he-woman.
Yesterday was a two-fer.
First he hid behind hillery by letting her “take responsibility” for Benghazi.
And then he used Candy Crowley to “redistribute” Romney’s speaking time and to silence Romney whenever the course of the debate was about to take a dangerous turn (e.g. Fast& Furious, Benghazi). He waved his finger and leapt off his stool to signal Crowley whenever he felt threatened, so SHE would make Romney shut up.
Cowering bully, hiding behind his allies whenever he is challenged. A liar and a spineless milksop.
Yet the fact is, the wealthy pay far more than their fair share, from a traditional American perspective. Please, everyone should be aware of what the Founding Fathers thought of direct taxation on individuals. (See Article I, Sec. 9, of the Constitution.) They not only did not favor a graduated tax on individuals; they believed that any such tax should be equal on all individuals.
It was during the 124 years, when that was our tax policy, that we grew to be the most prosperous peoples on earth. It was not "trickle down" anything. Simply a normal incentive, that actually worked.
Because these subjects are awkward for Gov. Romney, it is up to active Conservatives to take the fight back to the Obamanists. We can all do our part--even as the Hungarian multi-billionaire emigre, who came to America after World War II, has been spending a great deal of his own money, to try to preserve the traditional American values that attracted him hither. We do not need to stand idle, while the campaign misses an opportunity.

Yes! Obama is not treated like a man by his followers. He is treated as a child. Expectations are constantly being lowered for him. The imagery from your comment should be made into a political cartoon and widely disseminated.
Here is something I think needs to be pointed out...
WHO do you want meeting with Putin behind closed doors when the safety of the US is at stake... BO or MR?
The first impression argument is the most important. People WANT to change from Obama, they simply needed to see Romney appeared competent and could give it a good go.
He knocked it out of the park in the first debate, and now that impression is in cement.
That is all that matters.
All Obama can really hope for is Romney to make a monumental gaffe or some new “scandal”.
