President Barack Obama declared during Tuesday’s presidential debate that his goals as president include the reinstatement of a so-called “assault weapons ban” in the United States.
As part of a plan to reduce street violence in cities — including in his own hometown of Chicago — Obama proposed “seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.”
This appears to be among the boldest pro-gun-control comments Obama has made as president, and the first time has has openly called for the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban.
“So my belief is that, A, we have to enforce the laws we’ve already got, make sure that we’re keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill,” Obama said when asked about gun control. “We’ve done a much better job in terms of background checks, but we’ve got more to do when it comes to enforcement.”
“But I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets,” he added. “And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally.”

Good news actually. Tells me they are REALLY REALLY having problems with their base. This would be suicidal amongst all other groups.

Yes, this sent a chill down my spine when Obama said this, but I also thought that Obama probably unintetionally “outed” himself here. This is the REAL Obama, who wants to reintroduce an “assault weapons” ban.
I agree, I think it slipped out. When you have no plan and no record, you tend to fall back on core beliefs, and there's nothing Lefites like better than taking away guns.
Listen to Obama's response closely, I think he almost endorsed a handgun ban (which he supported as a Rep from Chicago). He endorses the AWB, then he says "But the real problem in the cities is handgun violence..." Then he starts to say something and cuts himself off so noticeably mid-sentence he actually sound like "Buuuuuwwww...." then he pauses for several seconds and starts talking about crime in the inner cities.

Very good point. He'd love to disarm the law-abiding and leave them as sitting ducks. It would aid redistribution.
Now that I think back, he did say something like "most of the crimes are done with handguns," but didn't take it any further. I didn't fill in the blank as to where he wanted to go.

The AR-15 was introduced to the civilian market BEFORE it ever saw service as the M-16. By that logic, AR-15s are good to go.
A logical assumption, give the obvious contempt this administration has for "stand your ground" laws - which are intertwined with concealed-carry laws and handguns.
Candy Boo Boo Child, in her role as Official White House Debate Moderator, was trying to 'gotchya' Mitt Romney. It occured late in the debate, when the participants were getting tired, and Mitt has a record of banning them in Massatwoshits.
So Candy was hoping to get Mitt Romney on record as FOR an AW ban, which would have severely depressed his base turnout.
He didn't answer it perfectly, but he didn't do any real damage to himself. On the other hand, OBAMA JUST MOTIVATED THE FIREARMS BASE TO *DEFINITELY* TURN OUT, in 1994 NUMBERS.....

Even more than gun control though,....my mind has been fixated on 2 more SCOTUS nominee's. That would buy us 40 more years of hell. There would have to be revolution before then. Gun control could be stopped in Congress,....I'm afraid the senate would buckle on the SCOTUS. We did get an active member of La Raza after all.

And the anointed one wants to get all those "automatic rifles off the streets". I thought it was great when Mitt says something like "well, they're not automatics, that would be illegal"
BO has no clue, but most journalists don't either when it comes time for discussions on firearms. Just another example of the brilliance of our POTUS....
Something else I noticed was his acknowledging the gun of choice for gangs was handguns and not long guns. Yet the various Fast and Furious operations around the country was for the sale of so called assault weapons.
The gangs are stockpiling long guns, they are not using them to commit crimes.
So much for the “Gun Control” theory behind the Fast & Furious type operations around the country.
Going into Clinton's 1996 reelection, the Chinese military was smuggling in full auto weapons for the gangs.

Thanks for making that point, dummy, just in case anybody forgot where you stand on this issue. That should sit real nicely with any of those "bitter clingers" in Pennsylvania who are still undecided.

In the mid 90’s I remember a short article in the Oakland Tribune where a customs spot check on some cargo in the port of Oakland turned up 2 cases of AK-47’s, full-auto and no serial numbers. Point of origin, China. The article was just a short paragraph then it disappeared down the memory hole.
NO WAY this happens as long as Obama is trying to get Ohio.
I recall seeing a masterful political cartoon from just after the '94 election, portraying the election results as a gigantic bullet marked "AW Ban" lodged in the wall of the White House. An equally enormous smoking revolver identified as "the voters" was at the left edge of the frame. Rising above the White House, Bubba's thought balloon read "Hey, that was no ordinary potshot", or some such (this was about a month after Francisco Duran emptied his SKS into the front of the WH).
I've searched for that one since but haven't been able to find it. I think the artist was Mike Luckovich... maybe.
You're right, though - even if Romney wasn't flawless, drawing that comment out of Obama was worth a lot of votes. The GOA, NRA, SAS, JPFO, et al better waste no time exploiting the opportunity.

Clinton had signed the assault weapon ban, but had given a waver to the Chinese to ship in, IIRC, 100,000 to 150,000 SKS rifles. They were so cheap you could buy one for under $50.

California banned and ordered SKS owners at least the ones who dutifully registered as assault weapons to turn them in back in 1999. I wonder if there were a few class 3 SKS in the mix as well and the state was looking to CYA.
On a side note the nut job who shot up the Carson City Nevada IHOP in 2011 used a Norinco Mak 90(AK-47 clone) modified for select fire. I remember a news conference where a LE rep said the AK was modified for full-auto and the mod job was of a very professional job and seemed to be beyond the capabilities of the shooter. The trail got murky after that in that the AK was sold in California in private party sale more than 5 years prior. Looks like there may be some select fire AK’s still floating around.

I don't have a doubt they knew what the Clintons were up to. Typical of liberals, disarm the honest people and leave them defenseless.
I also don't have a doubt the Chinese smuggling in those weapons to the gangs in 1996, is what Ron Brown was scared of and I think Brown was going public and they shut him up.

People are thoroughly convinced Obama is the Big Dog of this bunch because he’s president. He's not.
In 1995 when Bill Ayers patted Obama on his head, Obama was brought into the Clintons inner circle as their toady for Clinton's 1996 reelection to orchestrate race riots if necessary.
Obama is still the Clinton's toady.
