Police say an eastern Indiana man has been shot dead while trying to rob a pizzeria.
Richmond police said 30-year-old Freddie McCoy of Richmond was shot by an employee of Mercurio's Pizza about 10 p.m. Saturday.
Capt. Jim Branam tells the Palladium-Item that McCoy died at Reid Hospital after being treated by medical personnel at the scene of the shooting. It's not clear from the report if McCoy had a weapon.

I owned a pizza once.
Freddie McCoy
Think I know the answer
Can’t own a pizza and eat it too.
Was the pizzeria Hatfield-owned?
The second time in two weeks this perp was killed trying to rob a pizzeria?? At this rate he only has a couple of months to live.
Note to potential robbers - don’t try to rob Mercurios.
That saves tax dollars.
The article is suspicioously lacking a picture of dear Freddie.
I'l go on record to say:
"HE WAS A GOOD BOY!"
Richmond, Indiana.
“It was the second time in two weeks a robber has been shot and killed during an attempted robbery in central Indiana”
Just like that poor fellow who keeps on crashing his car by running stop signs dozens of times a day. You’d think he’d learn.
Pizza Owner Fatally Shoots...
...shot by an employee of Mercurio’s Pizza
Owner? Employee? If it is relevant to the story at all, why not be consistent?
He be a journ-0-lism graduate!
I’ve never heard of this place but apparently it has pizza to die for.
Freddie T. McCoy
I gather that Mr. McCoy wasn’t looking to steal pizza, but money. The pizza wasn’t THAT good.
An Honor Student, as well.
“A man killed in a robbery attempt Saturday night was shot once in the chest and twice in the hip by the store owner, Richmond police said Monday.
Freddie T. McCoy, 30, of Richmond died from injuries sustained in the shooting at Mercurios Pizza, 210 S. Eighth St., after being treated at the scene and transported to Reid Hospital, authorities said.
We are still looking at evidence and talking to witnesses, said Richmond Police Department Capt. Jim Branum. But Mr. McCoy was shot three times while standing inside the building at the counter.
Branum said an employee of Mercurios placed a 911 call at 10:06 p.m. Saturday about the robbery attempt and shooting. According to authorities, McCoy entered the carry-out pizza location wearing a ski mask and gloves and attempted to rob the store.
Emergency personnel responded to find McCoy on the sidewalk outside the building with gunshot wounds. Initial investigation indicated the business owner, Terry Padgett, shot the suspect during the robbery attempt, authorities said.”
He was just turning his life around.
Maybe all the employee was allowed to own was the pizzas?
