Perot backs Romney, says US ‘can’t afford’ another Obama term

Billionaire businessman and one-time presidential candidate H. Ross Perot on Tuesday endorsed GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

Perot, whose 1992 independent bid for the presidency captured close to 19 percent of the vote, praised Romney in an op-ed in the Des Moines Register, saying the GOP nominee would restrain the growth of government and “keep it from acting as a brake on economic growth.”

The national debt has been a signature issue for the 82-year old Perot and his endorsement comes after an interview earlier this month where he declined to back a presidential candidate, accusing both candidates of doing little to address the nation’s fiscal challenges.

In his Tuesday op-ed, Perot says that in the 2012 presidential race, the stakes are “nothing less than our position in the world, our standard of living at home and our constitutional freedoms.”

“We can’t afford four more years in which debt mushrooms out of control, our government grows and our military is weakened,” Perot says.

Perot accuses Obama of shouldering the nation with unsustainable debt: “In the last four years during Obama’s presidency, he’s added around $5 trillion to our national debt, more than any previous president.

“It is this massive deficit spending that threatens to undermine our future standard of living,” he adds.

But the Texas businessman cautioned that efforts to rein government spending should not weaken the nation’s military. “Even as we have engaged in runaway domestic spending, the country has been put on the path to massive cuts in the defense budget.

“History teaches that the price of military weakness always exceeds the price of preparedness,” Perot continues. “And yet at a moment when turbulence is sweeping critical regions of the world, we are increasingly unprepared.”

In explaining his support for Romney, Perot touts the former Massachusetts governor’s record working with a Democratic-legislature and his tenure as head of private equity firm Bain Capital.

“He has spent most of his career in the private sector. He understands how jobs are created. He understands how government can get in the way of that process,” says Perot.

Perot had backed Romney in 2008 over the eventual GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

What other choice does he/we have?

There is none.

We cannot continue on the path Obama has placed us on.

History will record this as the most corrupt, lying, weakest our country has ever been through. Certainly Obama who held so much promise has been a total failure and has set back race relationships in this country by 50 years.

Thanks for Clinton, asswipe. Remember that sucking sound? It wasn’t coming from Mexico, it was coming from under the president’s desk.

Well Thank You very much Ross.

Now that 30% of the current voters do not know who you are. That will make a BIG difference.

Perot is saying please don’t “Perot” Barack Obama into a second term. That seems the least he could do given his role in “Peroting” Clintbilly into power.

It’s like the dog that chased the car. When the dog caught the car, it peed on the hubcap. It didn’t have anything constructive to do.

Must have been a small disgusting rock they turned over to find this jug-eared martian. Who knew (of cared) that he was still around.

Twenty years too late, maybe. We really could have done WITHOUT the “Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001”.

While not nearly as destructive as either Jimmy Carter or the Current Occupant, Clinton did nothing to maintain the dignity of the Office of the Presidency of the United States, a very powerful office in the world regardless of who occupies it. He misused the position shamefully, and as if it were his own personal suzerainty, without thought to consequence or legacy. Besides, it gave a platform to Herself, the Cold and Joyless, who has brought her own form of mischief to the world.

America paid an awfully high price for a personal feud betwee Ross Perot and George H.W. Bush. And I don’t think it had much to do with not being invited to a wedding, or whatever.

Oh you mean that soon to be ex-congressman who says there is no difference between Obama and Romney? That Ron Paul?

I have a good idea what he was referring to but if one is to live by the sound bite, he is going to die by it as well.
