Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich criticized two major Republican campaign organizations for not continuing to back Republican candidate Todd Akin in the Missouri Senate race.
In an interview with The Daily Callers Ginni Thomas, Gingrich called out GOP establishment types Crossroads GPS super PAC and the National Republican Senatorial Committee for pulling funding from Akin, a congressman whose comments about legitimate rape caused a national uproar.
If you applied the Todd Akin rule to Joe Biden, hed be resigning the vice presidency once a week, Gingrich said in Akins defense. You have this bizarre double standard where Biden can say the weirdest things, and people just laugh and say, well, thats just old Crazy Joe, you know; after all, hes only vice president.
In Akins case, the establishment types saw a chance to get rid of a trouble-maker, replace him with somebody whod be malleable, do it in the name of winning the election and some of the things they said were quite extraordinary.
I mean, Karl Roves not-very-funny statement If Akin gets murdered, dont look for me, you know, I told Karl: in the age of Gabby Giffords, this isnt funny, this isnt a joke, you shouldnt be able to say this in polite company.
The former presidential candidate cited how the NRSC supported Charlie Crist instead of Marco Rubio in the Republican Florida Senate primary. So lets be clear, the Senate committee doesnt always have good judgment, he said.
I got so angry, because I am a genuine grassroots populist, and I have a permanent suspicion of the establishment. And I got so angry at the way they were treating Todd that I agreed to go in. I think I was the first person to go in and campaign for him, and Im delighted now that you have a number of other people campaigning for him: Jim DeMint has come in, [Mike] Huckabee has come in, [Rick] Santorum has come in.
Gingrich predicted that Akin would defeat incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Look for the complete interview on Monday at The Daily Caller.

Those that support Akin are the same as those that support Jesse Jackson. If your team has an idiot, kick him off the team. Neither side has the balls to do the right thing.
Your comment makes you sound like the idiot on our team.
I contributed to Akin both directly and via DeMint PACS such as:

Good to see Newt getting religion.

“Those that support Akin are the same as those that support Jesse Jackson. If your team has an idiot, kick him off the team. Neither side has the balls to do the right thing.”
You have a much worse case of foot-in-mouth disease than Akin has ever had.
Romney’s continued, stubborn support for RomneyCare is more stupid than anything Akin has ever said. Yet, I will vote for Romney over Obama. If I were in Missouri, I would not hesitate to vote for Akin. I have sent Akin contributions and am proud to have done so.
If you can’t support Akin for a statement you think was stupid, I assume you’re not supporting Romney either.
We need more idiots with a 97% conservative rating.
God bless and keep you and everyone you love.
You have it right.
GO NEWT!
GO AKIN!
My contribution to the NRSC went to Akin
Pathetic how all the weak knees here dumped on him
I wish Palin would make up for her original statements and go in and campaign for him
I will lose respect for her if she doesn’t
Yeah right compare a solid conservative like Akin to a corrupt left wing idiot like Jackson
Makes a lot of sense
Akin was dumped on and derided from the start. He refused to dropout.
He won the nomination.
He's the choice over the Obama laptop McCaskill. He has a conservative rating of 97% or better.
FWIW, everyone with a brain should have understood that by "legitimate rape" he was ruling out "statutory rape." Biden regularly makes worse gaffes He should have said, "violent, forcible rape."
This includes Willard...
But Willard and the GOP give lots to Tisei..

The left controls the media and MSNBC will have Akin on 24-7 waiting for another gaffe that will bury us all.
The country is divided 50-50. Akin will by chosen by the media to represent our side. Akin will accept the challenge and he will bury us all.
“My contribution to the NRSC went to Akin”
Me too.
If your team has an idiot, kick him off the team.

Willard is still here...
Anybody who compares Jesse Jackson, a lying, law breaker, who should be in jail, to Todd Akin, a good, solid conservative, is an idiot. I think those who aren’t supporting Akin are the ones missing their balls.
Gotta hand it to Newt...the man is a pithy witticisms perpetual motion machine.
Go Todd !!!
Go Newt !!!
I will never understand why the GOP establishment turns on their own, I think our leadership has been infiltrated by the enemy, they are always the first to run with the media bulls, for example, delve into the mind of the GOP: “why yes, Candy Crowley would make a great debate moderator, she’s so fair and balanced”, what a joke, sad!
