WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Authorities are investigating whether a Border Patrol agent shot dead in Arizona near the Mexican border may have been killed by friendly fire, two U.S. government sources said on Friday.

The sources, government officials familiar with the matter, declined to elaborate. A Department of Homeland Security spokesman declined to comment.

homeland security chief in arizona after border agent killing

Friday October 5, 2012 2:16 PM

PHOENIX - Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano held talks with law enforcement officials on Friday at a Border Patrol station in Arizona that saw one of its agents shot dead near the border with Mexico on Tuesday.

Napolitano, a former Arizona governor, also planned to meet with the family of slain Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie during her visit, Homeland Security spokesman Matt Chandler said. All the meetings were expected to be private.

Ivie, 30, was one of three Border Patrol agents who responded to a tripped ground sensor in a well-known smuggling corridor near the tiny border town of Naco. Ivie was killed and another agent was wounded. The third was unharmed.

Mexican officials have said two men were arrested in a military operation near the city of Agua Prieta, a few miles across the border from the shooting scene. U.S. authorities have declined comment on the arrests and released few details about the shootings.

Right. Friendly fire. Next we’ll hear that the BP agents were actually responding to a crowd, angry about a mean-spirited movie starring the Frito Bandito.

If I were the family of Agent Ivy, I would be all this investigation.

Mexican officials are holding perps on their side of the border connected to the ambush of these Agents. Fed Govt officials are trying to suppress that information.

Something smells here...will be following this closely...something the MSM is not doing.

I thought we were told that OUR side only had bean bag ammo, and were suppose to contact locals if real guns were used against them. (HUH!!)

Based on the parties involved at DHS, and the POTUS election this close, I have my doubts that this was a FF incident.
