Ever notice how the liberal pundits have no ability to appreciate art in any form, but they lavish wild praise on anything that promotes their agenda and call it “great art” ?
It’s not about esthetics. It’s about ideology.
Hey I just wanted to let you know the artist’s statement on this piece. It blew my mind when I heard it...
The artist bought that plastic crucifix cheap somewhere and was stunned at the commercialization of Christianity. He didn’t like the idea that people were making lots of money off of other people’s faith.
The artwork was an attempt to show his disgust, not with Christianity but with commercialization of faith.
Serrano’s piece would probably have been largely ignored, except that the artist succeeded in eliciting outrage. The protests are literally free advertising, and I’m sure the artist thanks you!
I’m catholic, and not only am I not offended, I could care less how someone portrays a religious figure in any religion.
It doesn’t diminish my own beliefs in any way.

With expressionism you often need to read the artist’s statement to fully understand the purpose. I am myself a Christian and was SHOCKED when I saw it. I am sure that was the purpose but Serrano had a goal that was different from blasphemy.
I’ve always found this piece of “art” incredibly distasteful, and I’m not even a Christian! Setting aside the question of blasphemy, it’s simply vulgar.

In addition to blasphemy, I contend this misuse of tax payer funds is also treasonous - The Constitution of the United States(Article III, Section 3) ...adhering to their enemies, giving them ‘AID AND COMFORT’...
Our Founders would see Serrano and the people who view this atrocity as ‘art’ as enemies to the Republic ~ and would be shocked and saddened by the fact that decent Americans subsidized this garbage!
Not my fight, but I would respectfully use the approach the mainstream media uses to kill things -— pretend this guy and his “art” doesn’t exist.
Don’t protest him.
Don’t mention him.
Dont’ critizize him.
Just ignore him, and quietly make sure he gets no money.
Very, very quietly.
But for right-wing protests, this guy would have disappeared long ago.
