from pictures at the link, the CNN version of this story sounds a little suspect. (imo)

They're claiming they found it on the floor of the consulate. What likely happened was his murderers took the journal as well as anything else of intelligence value. After copying the journal they sold it to CNN for a hefty sum or in exchange for something else. CNN gave Saddam Hussein favorable coverage in exchange for access. This was a scandal when it was exposed.

It is highly likely that CNN paid $xxxxxx for it and, thereby, helped finance al qaeda in their continued attacks on the US.
