In the late 80s, I was driving cross country and heard a news report that if we had another war, Canada would no longer be a hiding place for our deserters. The all volunteer force was the big reason they changed the law. Of course the reality of our Vietnam War deserters not being “our best and brightest” probably helped with that.

It seems one could do web research on Canadian laws before putting their entire future in the hands of stupid lib beliefs.

You are correct; our Vietnam-era policy reflected US policy during the first two years of WWII. We admitted draft-dodgers but deserters were extradited on request.

So true! I remember just after Carter gave his speech restoring Selective Service registration listening to a talk show on a Canadian radio station. The callers were absolutely apoplectic about another wave of American hippie slackers coming to overrun their country.
