Bombarded with religious messages, claims he was pressured to go to church --an employee of Albuquerque's Water Utility Authority is the victor in a lawsuit with a hefty payout because of the actions of his boss...
James Chavez says his supervisor, John Stomp forced Christianity on him over and over again making the workplace uncomfortable and nearly impossible for Chavez to receive a promotion.
"He thought it was acceptable for him to impose his religious views on me," Chavez said. "He offered me a Bible that he inscribed, gave me frequent admonishments why I should accept God into my life. He chastised me."

I wonder if this will encourage the Obamugabe followers to create new rules restricting religious freedom.
If he had been sexually harassed by a gay boss, at probably would have been no problem just part of diversity.
I don’t know if it’s actually that rare. As an adult I have not had anyone try to impose any religion on me. But as a kid growing up in small-town Texas, I got plenty of it. My parents were not churchgoers, and in grade school I got a constant litany of little kids telling me gleefully that I was surely going to Hell because my family never went to church. It took me YEARS to get past that and not generically dislike all so-called “Christians.” (I say “so-called” because surely, real Christians wouldn’t act like that, would they?) In any case, I think people of any religion can become annoying if they don’t pause to reflect on how their actions come across to non-believers.
Not all Christians use such approaches, in fact one of the things that drew me to the church I go to is the Pastors insistence that the very best way to reach out was not telling people that they are going to hell, but asking them if they would like to learn how they can go to heaven.
Well, I think the kids around me were simply being typical bratty little kids! But it is unfortunate that they chose to berate me about not going to church. It really did leave a distaste for the whole idea with me.
You can rest assured that whatever legal precedents arise from this case, Muslims will receive official “waivers” from it.
I live across the street from a Mother/Daughter team that praise God and thank Jesus every time they see me.
This kind of religious fervor is hypocritical and dripping with fakeness. (The Mother lets a "Gangsta" shack up in her home with her 17 yr old daughter)
I don't like to be lectured or pressured by anyone but my dear, sweet Husband(only because he knows me best). I don't care if I agree with you. Leave it for someone else.
and so it begins, now proselyting will be illegal
“how their actions come across to non believers” Really?
Christians are supposed to welcome others to the Good News and set an example by living the Word. There is nowhere in the Bible where it says to tiptoe around the sensitivities of nonbelievers. In fact many prophets of the Bible came right out and said “You are going to hell”. Your parents did you no favor by refusing to acknowledge God. You may be going down the road to perdition. Have you looked at your life?
On my way home from work there is a huge billboard saying “Godless government”, not a criticism, a recommendation. Posted by atheist.org. disgusting
Except it was coming from an authority figure and unwanted.
I agree with this decision, and for a good reason.
What if any of you had an Muslim boss who was pushing Islam on you?
I’d want that boss to pay, too.
You seem to think encouraging someone to become a Christian is the same as encouraging him to become a Muslim.
I guess that’s where you made your mistake.
No, I don’t
But that is how the law sees it.
You have to take your persona; feelings out of it for a moment and look at this objectively.
When anything, other than the directions necessary to do the job, comes from a supervisor the implied message is always “do this or you’re fired/demoted/have advancement stalled.”
That cannot be tolerated in the workplace. Regardless of the side or faction it comes from.
Its not the message that matters to the law, its the implied coercion from a superior.
Look, bub....unless you’re The Amazing Kreskin, you cannot read mine, nor anyone else’s mind. Capisce? Verstanden? Ist Klar?
I tend to write in a Devil’s advocate style, and you’re thin-skinned little yelps aren’t going to change that. I insulted no one, nor any religion, which as a Catholic I won’t......unless proselytizing evangelicals don’t take my “Sorry, not interested” seriously.
Do I really have to get into just whom the One True Church is? Do I have to start mentioning things like the catastrophe of the reformation, what a womanizer and alcoholic Martin Luther was, and what I consider the Protestant Heresy?
Now kindly take a hike and go somewhere.
Godless government
But it works so well everywhere that it has been tried. USSR, China, Cuba, North Korea, ad nausem....
Read your mind? I merely read your comments of agreement, and concluded (ta-da!) you were in agreement. Some party trick, eh?
You started a conversation with me, and now I’m supposed to “take a hike”? Nice.
I don’t know where all that other stuff came from, so I’ll leave it with you to sort out. Good luck!
