Federal judges may be messing with Voter ID laws in Texas and Pennsylvania, but a new poll finds that the laws have strong support among voters.

Seven in ten registered voters give photo ID requirements at the polls a thumbs up, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll conducted between Sept. 8 and 12. Only 28 percent oppose the concept and just 2 percent are unsure.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down voter ID requirement if a lower Commonwealth Court judge finds it’s difficult for all voters to obtain the proper indentifiication. A decision is expected by Oct. 2, about a month before the election.

The Texas voter ID law recently came under fire by critics who say it unfairly restricts voting. A federal three-judge panel in Washington, D.C. ruled the law discriminates against Latinos, the poor and other minorities.

The Texas law requires voters to provide one of five types of identification, which might mean shelling out $22 for a new birth certificate or finding a way to get to a Department of Public Safety office. Driver’s licenses, passports and gun licenses are acceptable forms of ID. College IDs are not.

“Even in great states like New York, California and Texas — really the pride of the nation — in some ways we still have voter registration laws that look like they came out of 18th century more than the 21st,” argues Lee Rowland, a counsel for the Brennan Center for Justice’s Democracy Program Rowland said.

But only about a third of voters agree, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott plan to appeal the Texas decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.....

I strongly support voter ID but there are other areas that are just as important such as absentee ballots, on-line registration and voting, same day registration, etc. Typical government process to address only one part of a problem.

IMO, all current voter roles need to be scrapped and everyone re-register into one master list which all states can access. That would certainly eliminate people voting in more than one state.

This is a winning issue for Romney and Republicans - attacking voter fraud encourages higher turnout.

So, what this says that 28% of the people want to be able to vote fraudulently or they want illegals to be able to vote fraudulently. There is no other reason.

This country is insane. Obama must go and take the entire Democrat Party with him. My wife is in the hospital in Florida where we reside, to undergo some minor surgery. Do you know that I cannot visit her unless i show security my Florida driver’s license with my photo on it. Then, they issue me a pass, which also has my photo on, taken by a security camera at check-in.

No one, no one should ever be allowed to vote without first identifying themselves with a phot ID. No photo ID, no voting!!! End of story!!!

"That would certainly eliminate people voting in more than one state."

As I recall, in the Florida 2000 general election about 1200 voted in both New York and Florida. Many of those voting in both states were Jewish and many were cival servants both of which groups vote overwhelmingly Democrat. If it weren't for these groups, the Florida results would not have been close at all.
