The Mexican government will aim to follow the lead of Colombia in the fight against drug trafficking, according to the country's elected president.
Enrique Peña Nieto, who met with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Tuesday, will take office in Mexico on December 1 and he has already revealed his desire to learn from Colombias strategy on drug control.
Several drug cartels are currently in the midst of a fierce fight for power in Mexico, leading to continued violence which has allegedly left at least 55,000 people dead in six years.
Peña Nieto will succeed current Mexican President Felipe Calderon and he has already made reducing drug violence a top priority of his new government.
Work in Colombia will certainly be a reference to integrate a new strategy and an adjustment to the work in this area, said Peña Nieto, according to Caracol Radio.
The current peace process between the Colombian government and the countrys largest rebel group FARC was also praised by the next Mexican president, who expressed his desires for a successful end to the talks.
"I want to express my wishes of success to move from this effort and provide greater security to Colombia in a greater effort to achieve full peace in the country," added Peña Nieto.
While I wish him all the best, do you think you could maybe try and keep your citizens from crossing the border illegally? That’s some help we could really use.
Columbia got control of their country with the help of the CIA, and LOS PEPES. Basically, they assumed the tactics of their enemy. So now I guess the Mexican government will be cutting off heads and leaving them on the roads.
Mexico City has no reason to discourage cross-border crossings - it's a win-win situation, reducing excess labor, bringing capitol into the nation, and decreasing government expenditures. It's up to us to take care of the border, Mexico has no conceivable reason to do anything about it.
After Brian Terry, I wouldn’t mind them doing the same to Eric Holder along with these animals.
Seal the border and Calderons head will be found on the side of the road. I despise Mexicans because rich or poor they don’t give a damn what happens to their country as long as they can keep destroying ours.
Whoa. I never noticed it before, but apparently former Star Trek actor William Shatner also serves as President of Columbia in his spare time, governing under the pseudonym "Juan Manuel Santos". Is there nothing the Shat can't do? This guy really gets around for an 80 year old.
I would very much like to see this.
In the case of Colombia, years of abuse at the hands of the socialists and druglords bred a generation of leaders who were once their victims but now had the power to strike back.
President Uribe was such a man. A man of conviction, courage and rightous outrage of the crimes committed by these fiends. His family had suffered greatly at the hands of the socialists and drug cartels. He literally came into office with a vengeance and became the "Sword Of Gabriel" to the criminal element.
Mexico has certainly had enough opportunity for a new hero to arise. Has he? I pray for the sake of their innocents...
If you’re being serious, it’s anything that works.
Since Colombia has been and remains a major coca producer, whereas Mexico is not, I'm not sure what of relevance there is to learn. (And I note in passing that whatever Colombia did had no effect on the price or purity of powder or crack cocaine in the USA, which remained constant from 2003-2008.)
So that’s what happened to the price line negotiator. LOL.
