Why would you have heard of either of these cases, both rather trivial in the scheme of things?
The write-ups don’t even tell you anything of substance.
I think it is interesting that a man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, is brought to trial with a jury, and is found not guilty in half an hour by a jury of his peers on the basis of self defense.
Very few cases go to a jury trial. Most are plea bargained. The fact that this case was won, and was decided by the jury so quickly, shows that it should never have been brought to trial at all.
Once again, Chip Venie was able to show the jury that the police officer, Officer Dominic Martinez of the Albuquerque Police Department was lying and was motivated by money and the DWI quota in Albuquerque, rather than by any sense of justice or pursuit of justice. Chip Venie showed that Officer Martinez made over $107,000 in 2011, with $57,000 coming in DWI overtime. Chip Venie also exposed the DWI Quota system maintained by the Albuquerque Police Department.
It's always good to publicize the jurisdictions and and names of cops that are holding a finger down on the scales of justice.
