On the eleventh anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s attack on America, it’s worthwhile to examine just what he hoped to accomplish. He spelled out his goals in three documents: a 1996 fatwa titled, “Declaration of War Against The Americans Occupying The Land of the Two Holy Places”; a 2002 “Letter to America”; and a 2004 video.
In these manifestos, he declared his willingness to die, of course. His goals included:
“Terrorizing” Americans; Demoralizing US troops; Weakening and destruction of Israel; Unification of Muslims throughout the Middle East via “democratic” establishment of Shariah law in “governments of our countries which act as your agents”; Destroying the US economy, especially the banking system, with special attention to the creation of massive deficits – a “bleed until bankruptcy plan”; Destruction of American industrial capacity in the name of global warming; Destruction of the rich, “who hold sway in their political parties, and fund their election campaigns with their gifts”; Closing Guantanamo; “Pack your luggage and get out of our lands.”
Eleven years later, Bin Laden seems to have kept most of his campaign promises. Are Americans “terrorized”? It would be hard to argue otherwise when we’re still dragging little old ladies out of line at the airport to be genitally examined. Forget hope and change – we’re now a nation of grope and shame.
Are US troops demoralized? Of course they are, when the Obama administration seeks to cut military funding dramatically, place more restrictive rules of engagement on them, and use them as a vehicle for social change.

I don’t see how anyone cannot see obama is doing exactly what osama wanted to do. And he had some help and is still getting assistance from the “opposition” party. Why are they helping him?
The Arab world is big on symbolism and the proper manipulation of iconic symbols generates a very strong mass emotional response from the Arab world.
The destruction of an American Embassy in the Middle East combined with killing of an American Ambassador on the anniversary of 9/11 evokes the images of Radical Islam's two great triumphs over the west- the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9/11 and the Iranian hostage crisis under Jimmy Carter.
This Libyan Embassy attack and the murder of American Diplomats is seen by an ignorant, uninformed Arab population in the Middle East which has been indoctrinated with 40 years of hate propaganda directed at America , Israel and the West as huge symbolic victory for the Islamic Radicals.
The symbolism of successfully attacking an American Embassy and killing the Ambassador and his staff own the anniversary of 9/11 is obvious, and the most recent intelligence clearly suggests that this attack was planned in advance by Al-Qeada and it's Muslim Brotherhood masters,with the help of the Libyan security forces, and that the destruction of the Embassy and the murder of it's Diplomats was the goal.
The Libyan Embassy attack will be perceived as an unprecedented “victory” and show of Islamist strength by the Arab street and will no doubt be used to try to fan the flames of violence and chaos all over the Middle East and to be the rallying cry for a general Islamic uprising and mobilization in the region.
This also really helps Iran by making the West nervous about supporting Israel and it's goal of destroying the Iranian Nuclear weapons program now that Iran is in home stretch of building atomic bombs.
I am uncomfortable with (unconfirmed?) reports that Obama conveniently pulled the Marine Guards off the Libyan Embassy grounds in the last few weeks.
