Romney Fires Back After DNC Platform Excludes Jerusalem as Israeli Capital

Unlike the party’s 2008 platform, the Democrats 2012 platform does not specifically mention Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and now Mitt Romney is firing back.

“It is unfortunate that the entire Democratic Party has embraced President Obama’s shameful refusal to acknowledge that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital,” Romney said in an e-mail to reporters.

In 2008, the Democratic platform stated: “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.”

Earlier this year, White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest stated “the capital [of Israel] is something that should be determined in final status negotiations between the parties. I’d remind you that that’s the position that’s been held by previous administrations, both Democratic and Republican.”

The Jerusalem Embassy Act, which calls for Jerusalem to be recognized as the capital of Israel, was passed by Congress in 1995 but has never been implemented. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and now Barack Obama have viewed it as a congressional infringement on the executive branch’s constitutional authority over foreign policy.

“Four years of President Obama’s repeated attempts to create distance between the United States and our cherished ally have led the Democratic Party to remove from their platform an unequivocal acknowledgment of a simple reality,” Romney’s statement read on Tuesday. “As president, I will restore our relationship with Israel and stand shoulder to shoulder with our close ally.”

Thank you. That’s what I was trying to say, but from an evangelical Christian perspective. You understand from the inside. We love Israel so much and it was difficult to be with Jewish friends who obviously didn’t care. I said, “ignorant”, and you added “assimilated”. “Assimilated” says so much.

Sorry but - Please do not be deterred by those Jewish friends of yours. They will figure it out eventually, hopefully. Even if Jews vote Obama 70% 2012 I assure you you there are American Jews. Me and some of my relatives for one, who greatly appreciate all Christians who think about Israel. This Jew says Jerusalem is the center of the world where Judaism is focused (City of David) and where so much of Jesus' life and death took place. I was born Jewish with a Jewish mother and father and always will be

Your responses to me, however appear to present you feel that way.
You worship Romney, that is clear.
I will not vote for a liberal, and that sends you into a tizzy.
Romney is a liberal.
Vote for him fine, just do so with your eyes open to that.

Believe me, if I thought EV had a prayer I'd be playing Scrabble with Old Earl Gray and his little group on election night.

But sometimes you have to settle for what can be done. Falling on your sword doesn't accomplish a damned thing.

I have nothing to add because you deserve to be ignored on a thread you hijacked. And most of the rest of the time.

I asked a question and you went apoplectic, ok.

You keep repeat “I am going to ignore you”, yet you don’t.

You do have it bad, real bad.

Obama’s Christianity is further removed from orthodox Christianity than Mormonism. I doubt that he believes that Jesus Christ is divine in any sense of the word.

Mormons think they are the only Christians, that traditional Christianity is past of an apostasy at the start of things. Protestants say much the same thing about the Catholic Church, except they think that the Bible is the whole of the faith. The Mormons also believe in the private revelations of Joseph Smith and the Presidents of the Church. The Book of Mormon is also considered Scripture. Myself I think it is a product of speculations about the origins of the Indians, who are not mentioned/alluded to in Genesis. Adair’s history of the American Indians, published in 1775, is an account of his experiences among the Southeastern Indians. he spends some time on the language and sees some resemblance to Hebrew in it. I think this sort of thing made its way into Smith’s thinking. A mystery people whose origins needed to be explained, and sometimes associated with the 10 lost tribes of Israel.
