TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Police have a new method for dealing with armed attackers who get inside school buildings in Tuscaloosa: They're teaching educators and students to fight back.
School systems typically tell workers and students to lock every possible door and hide if an intruder enters a classroom building. But Tuscaloosa schools have started a program with city police in which employees and students are being trained to fight back if necessary.

No word if they *allow* teachers/staff to carry... Never forget!

“No word if they *allow* teachers/staff to carry”
Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if I could. The only place I don’t have a gun is where I spend most of my time- at work.

“The Tuscaloosa News reported Sunday the training centers on running, throwing things at intruders and restraining them.”

And if the intruder is armed? Why don’t they just get it over with and just tell them to bend over? I saw the AP source and knew it’s another “we don’t need guns to solve our criminal problem” propaganda..

i don’t know about teachers carrying staffs but i knew a few wielded a lethal yardstick

I know carrying is not allowed in most schools...I also know many, many administrators [as if they’d protect anyone but themselves, who carry...it’s a well-know *secret* in dangerous large, urban schools in CT]

I am well acquainted with the sheriff of our Alabama county. He told me personally that IF you feel your life is in danger, you have the right to defend yourself and if someone is trying to get into your home with you there, shoot first and then ask what the guy wanted. He said if it is a woman at home, they won't even ask a question about what happened. She felt threatened, so she defended herself. End of statement.

I can just imagine the legal implications, if this defense was employed. I envision a teacher with 3’ tall kinders, *ordering* to attack the knees of an lethal intruder...and some of them are hurt/heaven forbid, killed.
Not sure, if I was a teacher/coach of the football team, that I’d want to command my students to attack some nefarious character.

You folks in the south, have a lot more liberties than we, north of the Mason-Dixson.
That’s the way it should be.......for everyone!.

It was regular school. Back when being beaten in school wasn’t only acceptable, but expected.
Why don’t they just add assault weapons to the janitors cleaning supplies?

And we plan to keep them!

My niece from Texas once asked me if I’d ever heard of a mass school shooting in Texas. According to her, many of the teachers there pack.

Just be sure that, if you overcome the threatening individual, you don’t let him leave alive. Otherwise some liberal judge will make sure he’s back on the streets, and he’ll come lookin’ for payback!

The one that I recall was ages ago...in the 60s IIRC, of the Texas tower shootings. That seemed to be when it all *started*.
I am envious of how Texas [and other Southern authorities] treat self-defense with a firearm issues. Not so up here. :(

Crikey. I remember the day when every school had a indoor shooting range in the basement.....and once a week *boys* were allowed to bring their .22 long rifles to school for practice/matches. Now, if you even make a *finger=gun*.....you’re expelled.

Gee. If only someone could invent a tool that anyone could master that would stop a killer dead in his tracks before he could force school children to run headlong into the fire of his gun.

Then my fine Patriotic friend, you need to pack your family and come on down. We will be glad to have you and you will become family. My wife is originally from Wisconsin. She grew up in socialist Seattle. When we got married and I brought her here to Alabama the first time, we went to my brother's house. He lives right on the Coosa River. I took my wife down on his dock, and turned to her and said, “honey, I baptize you a southern girl,” and promptly pushed her into the river!! She actually came up laughing. I told her she was now no longer a yankee. She was a baptized Southern Girl! She couldn't be happier. That what we'd do too you guys. Just baptize you in a southern river and you are one of us. Come on down. You WILL NOT regret it.

Thank you for the very kind and hospitable offer. I doubt if I could survive the first summer with the audacious heat y’all have to endure. I have found in my travels that the men of the south are the most *gentlemanly* of anywhere on this planet and the women most hospitable and charming. :)
