We should tune in to the Romney and Ryan show. (view from UK - "must read")
Uk Telegraph ^ | Sept 1, 2012 | Janet Daley

The myth of a democratic socialist society funded by capitalism is finished.

Whatever the outcome of the American presidential election, one thing is certain: the fighting of it will be the most significant political event of the decade. Last week's Republican national convention sharpened what had been until then only a vague, inchoate theme: this campaign is going to consist of the debate that all Western democratic countries should be engaging in, but which only the United States has the nerve to undertake.

What is being challenged is nothing less than the most basic premise of the politics of the centre ground: that you can have free market economics and a democratic socialist welfare system at the same time. The magic formula in which the wealth produced by the market economy is redistributed by the state - from those who produce it to those whom the government believes deserve it - has gone bust.

It (the message) was just a reassertion of the basic values of American political culture: self-determination, individual aspiration and genuine community, as opposed to belief in the state as the fount of all social virtue. Romney caught this rather nicely in his acceptance speech, with the comment that the US was built on the idea of "a system that is dedicated to creating tomorrow's prosperity rather than trying to redistribute today's." Or as Marco Rubio put it in his speech, Obama is "trying ideas that people came to America to get away from".

It's really a "must read" article. It sums up very well what is at stake.

Yup. We either will or we won’t. My view of our culture is that we may win this battle but we lost the war decades ago.

"It has become apparent to anyone with a grip on economic reality that free markets simply cannot produce enough wealth to support the sort of universal entitlement programmes which the populations of democratic countries have been led to expect. The fantasy may be sustained for a while by the relentless production of phoney money to fund benefits and job-creation projects, until the economy is turned into a meaningless internal recycling mechanism in the style of the old Soviet Union."

Not yet, but hopefully November will supply the coup de grace!

Teaching colleges + journalism schools => today's media and teachers' unions.

Slow kill, Communist style.

Col. Suharto was antidotal in Indonesia, Col. Pinochet in Chile.

I’m guessing we wouldn’t have much to argue about.

IT IS A GOOD ONE. THANKS FOR POSTING IT.

Coincidentally, I heard a pinheaded sociologist on a talk show recently, explaining to his poor misguided audience how this new “American Plan” will be different from what happened in Mother Russia.

***********************************************************

Perhaps but if true the blame can be laid directly at the feet of the electorate. We have a system which calls for a government of, by and for the people and one chosen in a free election process. There is also a provision to remove the government in our Declaration of Independence. Here is what it says in part:

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

This bar has been met and the time for action is now.

this campaign is going to consist of the debate that all Western democratic countries should be engaging in, but which only the United States has the nerve to undertake.

The reason we are the only ones having this debate is because we have the Second Amendment.

I am 100% positive that without the visceral fear that amendment gives to almost all politicians we would not be having this 'discussion'.

Amen! The "electorate" is interchangeable with "culture".

I agree — it isn’t that long and provides a great perspective from across the pond.

Too bad all the MSM (except a few FOX commentators) here is too in the bag for zero to see as clearly.

Moreso, there is a provision on the USC for removing and replacing the government (Article V) in its entirety.

It’s our fault, our choice for President in November is between two men who go against God, abortion and sodomy are intrinsic evils, always were, always will be. Pray, pray, pray for a miracle.

72. Electing a President

August 6, 2011

Message from Mary, Our Lord’s beloved mother

The holes are opening up in the American economy, gigantic gaps that no amount of money can fill in. American life is spiraling downward and out of control. No one can see how fast all of this will transpire. There is still an aura of unreality, as if this could never happen in America.

O America, you will tumble and tumble, wondering when this downturn will bottom out. “When will we turn around?” you will ask.

Who are your leaders? Whom have you elected? Did you not vote your wallets? Is it not always the economy that determines your choice? You have gotten the leadership that you deserve. These are the ones you have chosen, because you always vote by the wrong standards.

You must hold your elected officials to higher standards. They must be good people, who protect the unborn and protect marriage. To you, these issues seem unimportant, as if they are on the sidelines. Yes, for you they do not matter. If Satan could fix your economy, you would elect him your president.

This is my promise. If you place first what I place first and elect officials who hold my values, then your economy will turn around. However, if you continue to elect those who are unworthy but promise you economic blessings, your economy will continue to tumble.

Look at the next elections in light of what I have just told you. Those who do not protect the unborn and who do not protect marriage cannot protect your money.
