The General Lee Bo and Luke Dukes vehicle of choice from The Dukes of Hazzard is a classic and instantly recognizable Hollywood car. But its about to get a little less recognizable as Warner Bros., the studio that owns the theatrical, DVD and licensing rights to The Dukes of Hazzard, has decided to remove the confederate flag from all future versions of the car.
The news has reportedly been floating around the hobby community over the past few days as Dukes of Hazzard collectors became aware of a new regulation. A collector on HobbyTalk.com was told by a representative at Dukes of Hazzard toy company Tomy:
Starting January 1, 2013 all Dukes of Hazzard General Lee vehicles will not be allowed to be produced with the Confederate Flag on the top of the vehicle.
According to the toy rep, the word came directly from Warner Bros. who no longer wants to endorse an item that has the Confederate flag printed on it.
As of now, this directive only expressly includes merchandising but Warner Bros. is developing a new Dukes of Hazzard movie with Jody Hill directing and if theyre being this strict about licensing issues, they could very well enforce the same policy with the upcoming film. But what is a Dukes of Hazzard property without the General Lee with the flag painted on top?

May as well paint it blue and call it the General Sherman.
You might as well just demand that all future General Lee’s be compressed into blocks of metal.
The Confederate Flag is as much a part of General Lee as the make and model of car itself.
Thank you President Obama, for moving us beyond race and division!
Oh lemme guess, they’re gonna fag up the General Lee and put a rainbow flag on top of it.
And the world just continues to get more pathetic by the day.
Its gonna be a SMART car.
Indeed, now we have Division and Race!
This will just make the old stuff quite collectible and any movie they do just make fun of hick stuff (that’s how they really feel about the South) garbage and will likely fail miserably. I won’t cry if they lose money with PC nonsense.
Fine and dandy. I'll just not spend a dime on anything having the Warner Bros name on it.
Thanks alot Hollywood destroy another cherished memory from my childhood.......
Didn’t the horn play Dixie?
Is that gone yet? If not, it will be as soon as the PC-ers can get that removed, too.
Can we compromise with the far left fringe and make it an energy efficient "Smart Car" but keep the flag . . . until two years from now when they will ask us to give up something more?
I wonder what Bubba Watson, the 2012 US Masters champ (golf) will do with his copy of the car? Will he be cowed into removing the flag? Time will tell.
Holy cr@p, this PC bull$#@& is out of control!! Warner Bros, eh? Another product not to buy.
Anyway, thanks at least for this reminder of the origin of the term “Daisy Dukes”. Actually those look rather conservative JMHO.
Maybe the General Benedict Arnold..
Yup! Politcal Lib-Turd PCism in action.
Next thing you know they will have Whoopi Goldberg playing Daisy Duke
that would be a rear admiral not a general.
