For months, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews has been on a near-daily if not daily tirade accusing the Republican Party of using dog-whistle racist tactics to defeat President Obama. Since the start of the Republican National Convention, Matthews has amped up his racial hyperbole to 11 by overtly claiming the Republican Party wants to return to a time when slavery was legal.
Matthews’ insulting comments came roughly 12 hours after former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke at the GOP convention. Appearing on The Daily Rundown, Matthews tried to paint Ms. Rice as an outlier in a party hostile to minorities. [Video coming soon. MP3 audio here.]
Matthews claimed that the Republican message of ‘restore’ is at odds with modern times, i.e. progressivism. Instead, Mr. Matthews insisted that, “to a lot of Americans, if you get back to where we were, there were slaves, if we got back to where we were, women weren't voting.”
Apparently Mr. Matthews does not know that Ms. Rice, the direct descendant of slaves, explains that she is Republican because as a child, the Republican Party in Alabama allowed her parents to register to vote, whereas the Democrats would not.
If Matthews EVER gets his head out of his a%$-I’m going to go to church and light a candle.
I am so sick of that SOB Tingles. If that guy doesn’t have a chair cracked over his head before the end of this year, I would be happy to do the honors and knock some sense back into him.
I’m tired of this lib PC BS. They get away with everything, it’s time to split some hippy heads and fight fire with fire.

My question is whether ANYONE is taken in by such egregious falsehoods. I really have to believe that such nonsense costs him viewers who are simply put off by being expected to believe things that are obviously untrue, while more subtle critics of the GOP might score more points with voters.
I'd rather go back to 1950 than 1650.

This is patently absurd. The Declaration and the Constitution were based on principles of freedom that over time, particularly when Republicans freed the slaves in the Civil War, helped to break down slavery. This is just willful nonsense.
Obsession with race. They need to retire Matthews after this election. It has reached a level of ridiculousness.

The way Howard Fineman and Chris Matthews treated Michael Steele in their recent interview, was an overt dispaly of racism. They gave Mr. Steele no respect, wouldnt look at him or let him speak. Howard Fineman gave the appearence of being mentally unhinged. Honestly, there is something not right with him.

With liberals its ALWAYS about race..every word a Republican uses is “Code word” for something..”Chicago” is code word for black..wearing a certain color outfit is code word for something..its so beyond laughable. I find watching my own sh*t swirl down the toilet bowl after flushing to be far more informative than watching Chris Matthews.
