DETROIT (AP) -- Police say an attack on a Michigan State University student at an off-campus party is not being investigated as a hate crime.

Zach Tennen says he was at a party when two men asked if he was Jewish, and when he responded "yes," punched him in the face.

More likely the underaged kid was drunk (alcohol was admitted to) and he got punched out for whatever reason and had to come up with something to tell his parents.........Might as well blame it on the Nazi's and the KKK.

You may be right, usually 20 people don’t stand around while two guys staple someone’s lips shut without trying somehow to intervene.

Still, if he was stapled that goes far beyond just breaking his jaw with a couple of punches, there must have been something to motivate them taking it that far.

That is the story reported by the beat downee and apparently no evidence to support it. The story as reported this morning was fishy, and the subsequent actions by kid via twitter etc. really made it stink. Romney is a felon, racist, murderer, someone said so.

I'm guessing that's what happened. If he didn't know anyone at the party, why would they ask him if he was Jewish? It sounds like a couple of drunken jerks just decided to pick on him and no one stepped in to help. It is by the defintion given it by the proponents and advocates of that law, of which I am not one. As far as I'm concerned it was an assault. I don't believe it's a lesser offense if one doesn't hate his victim.

Latest story on this morning's news is police are denying a hate crime charge. It's also been revealed that it was a fight over a girl, which explains alot.

Kid probably got suckerpunched and ended up with the broken jaw, nobody called the cops because there wasn't a beat-down going on plus since alcohol was on the premises, both parties involved as well as the witnesses were likely all drinking.

In the interview at the kid's home the only sign of injury is the kid's swollen jaw....no black eyes, no stapled lips.

As typical of over reactive parents, instead of them looking at this as a valuable life lesson for their under age, 19 year old drunk kid, they're lawyering up ......

I've been in several fights while in the army, witnessed many more, and at the end of the night you just go back to the barracks and the next morning you try to convince the guys that the other guy looked worse than you. You didn't run home to mom and dad........

I read where the kid is now claiming they had shaved heads. So the attackers claimed to be KKK, gave a Nazi salute and had shaved heads- and carried a stapler around with them. I think this kid watches too much television. I’m guessing this kid has some psychological issues- and I bet his parents know it.
