Hurricane Isaac
NHC/NOAA ^ | 27 August 2012 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2012 9:24:55 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Isaac has been slow to organize and attain hurricane status. Slow moving minimal Hurricane Isaac threatens to dump up to 20" of rain in portions of its path. Storm surge of 6-12ft is expected.

Media news readers have gleefully reported RNC scheduling adjustments to accommodate public safety during Tampa storm warnings.

A water spout formed in the Tampa Channelside area at 4:43PM Monday afternoon, a short distance from the RNC Convention Center. The Florida Atlantic coast was inundated with torrential rain squalls from far-reaching Isaac outer bands. Several tornados were reported in the Florida peninsula.

The weather took its toll on protester turnout at the GOP convention. Cara Jennings, a community organizer from Palm Beach County, braved the elements dressed as a sparkling pink vagina, along with several dozen other protesters.

GOP governors of Gulf Coast states announced they would remain at their posts, rather than attend the Tampa convention. British Petroleum reported eight oil rigs and 39 production platforms were evacuated late Sunday. By mid-day Monday, personnel had been evacuated from 346 offshore gas and oil platforms, representing 58 percent of the 596 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

As Isaac ultimately takes aim at the Gulf of Mexico coastline, news outlets wistfully reminisce about the 7th anniversary since Hurricane Katrina, huge television ratings, and once again omit a state named Mississippi in their storm coverage. One thing is certain--news coverage is much more predictable than Hurricane Isaac.

Radar’s showing a meso (rotating thunderstorm), but no TVS (tornado vortex signature) centered above Mobile Alabama, currently.

Yeah. There was dry air to the north and south of Isaac when it was just west of the tip of Florida. That was probably why it did not get wound up tightly. And although water temps at the surface were warm enough to support intensification, the heat content or depth of that heat showed a lack of heat content in the Gulf to the south and south east of New Orleans.

Margaret Orr ‏@MargaretOrr @AUDRAAAYsay_ Isaac will be moving your way during the day, so expect winds, rain to increase-similar to what is happening south shore. View conversation Reply Retweet Favorite

Now why would anyone put a house in Pointe Celeste, LA. You gotta figure one day (or every five years) your place is going to get hit with a hurricane.

Tornado warning, New Orleans street flooding and the 18-mile stretch of levee in Plaquemines Parish over-topping mentioned in the UPDATES list section under this article.

Live: Hurricane Isaac Along Louisiana Coast

Flooding was and always is the concern here. Also, it basically stalled overnight. If it goes west, the gulf water there has more heat content.

Houma, Louisiana. Drove through that area just last summer at the peak of the Mississippi flooding. To the west of Houma there are a few dozen very small towns that exist behind a wall of levees. The flooding was about 5-6 feet away from over topping. Supposedly the situation this summer is vastly different.
